Hi all,
Had a chance to do some 4wdriving in Bali and I got to use the Toyo Fortuner. It looks like a wagon version of the Hilux and I'm guessing not as long a whellbase.
It was extremely capable offroad even though I thinks its got a smaller motor then the Hilux. I went into some hairy situations and it took it in its stride
Does anyone know If you can import them into Oz, They are smaller then the Prado have a intercooled Turbo diesel motor and low range.
It would be just the thing to get the bride if it could be brought in.
Cheers Wilko

Looks like it is the current forerunner that was replaced by the Prado

Hi Mr Pointyhead,
Was thinking they misspelled the Forerunner. Am looking for a proper smaller 4wd (with low range) in a diesel. They are like rocking horse bleep , you just cant find them.
It would be good to replace the next to useless Kluger. There was another 4wd called the Toyota Rush, Looked like the Rav4 but it had low range and a diesel.

4 runners and challengers ran/run a coil sprung rear end for the oz and us markets.
The futunas, Mu's etc are all leaf sprung rears to slot into the asian way of taxing vehicles. Leaf sprung rear = big initial purchase savings. Nonsensical maybe, but a fact of life nonetheless.

Was in south Africa last year.
Many Fortuners there.
I looked at it with interest being an off-road tragic.
But, consistently, the word iss that they are only average off-road
(Actually average on-road as
well)
did not drive it to form my own opinion though

Hi CSeaJay,
I'm currently driving a Hilux dual cab and spent a lot of km's in my old Pajero. The Fortuner (it had a rear diff lock) was easily superior to both with a stump pulling low range gearing. The 2.5lt motor pulled strongly.
On road wasnt a lot different to the Lux.
