Fraser Island

Just got back yesterday after six awesome days on Fraser Island, had pretty good weather, fishing not so hot (had heaps of fun though) Racheal - the youngest at 9yrs caught a 30cm whiting!!!! Taught the girls how to dig for Pippi's and beach worms!! what a laugh.

The 80 series didn't miss a bit, went right up to Orchid Beach, Lake Mackenzie, Central Station. As usual there were a few "idiots" makes it stressful with kids on the beach, I was shocked at the amount of rubbish in the dunes and on the beach as well.

All in all a great week and can't wait to do it all again ASAP. Now back to reality - work and college :-( Bother.........

Hi

We have a lot of great memories of Fraser.

Our family has been going there since the early eighties.

Back then the the place was in pristine condition.

Now in places it's like a rubbish tip.

The Cook and I still go there now and again but we pick our times when to go.

We frequently go to Teewah Beach, it's not as far to go as Fraser.

Teewah gets busy and again we go there mid week for a few days.

I'm glad you all had a good time.

When the kids got the Pippis did they just get them in the compacted sand were you see the Pippi Bumps or did they have to do the Pippi Shuffle on the edge of the water.

Cheers

speaking to a ranger there just before Easter time about all the rubbish on the beach, she said that when the annual Fraser Island Clean up is done, you can return a week later and it doesn't look like it ever got cleaned up. the amount of rubbish there earlier this year was certainly greater then i've seen there on our previous visits, i wondered if the recent floods that have hit the SEQ coastline weren't playing a rool in the extra rubbish i was noticing washed up on the beach?

Hey guys its good to see your still rolling the ks over. I'm thinking about renewing my membership I dropped off for a while. We have been up to heaps in this fantastic country of ours. Since we chatted we sold the van bought a camper and back to a van in December when we will take ownership of a new Base station.

We were there just after the floods and there were heaps of rubbish, not only on the beach, but still floating in the ocean. (Obviously all being washed up onto the beach.) Even going across the ferry from Inskip you could see lots being pushed out on the outgoing tide. I would think it would have taken a long time for the rubbish to disperse from the ocean. Not saying there are not the lazy so and so’s who do not take their rubbish with them, plus the people who bury it on Fraser and then the Dingos come along and dig it up. Been there a few times and normally it is not too bad, except for the washed up debris. (Lots of thongs for some reason?) Glad you did enjoy the island. It is a magic place, but do not tell too many about it!

I went fo frazer in the earliy 80's and the norm was to bury rubbish, when there was sand erosion it was all over the beach. While at indian head a few years back the bypas track uncovered some rubbish from years ago it was like a time captule with the square 1pint milk bottles and cans I had not seen in years.
