Hi Guys
I have lost the oil pressure reading in my beloved 60 series @H engine while out driving, I pulled over and found the wire had separated from the slide clip on the oil sender. when I got home I re soldered the wire to the slide clip but still have no reading for oil pressure.
Am I correct to believe it is a single wire to the oil pressure swsender or is there 2 wires as there is a male fitting above where the slide clip goes on. just cant recall if it had two wires to it or one.
if I put the center slide clip to the male fitting I get High oil reading with ignition on and engine not running and with center clip I am getting no read at all now.
does this mean the sender is gone to god and I need to buy a new one? how difficult is it to fit a new one?
your thoughts please
cheers

Mcgra,
just had a look at my manual and the early HJ60's were 2 wire. Black with a yellow stripe and 2 white with black stripes (earths)
Late model HJ60's were signal wire Black with a white stripe.
Don't worry too much about the colours I have quoted as sometimes
mine are different colours to the book.
If the sender has only one point for the connection then it will only use one wire.
Try shorting the wire to earth and that should give you a reading with the ignition on. If it does the sender is u/s and if it doesn't either the wire is broken elsewhere, the gauge is faulty or the feed to the gauge has a blown fuse (this I doubt as many if not all of the instrument cluster gauges will not work.)
Hope you find it, you can also buy aftermarket oil pressure senders for your old girl.

Sounds like this is the unit that goes to the dash, but just in case you aren't aware, there are two oil pressure sender units on the 2H. One to the dash, the other as an engine protection. No oil pressure and it cuts the fuel via the EDIC (if yours is not a real early one).

thanks guys
here is an ebay link to what the unit looks like,
mine is the same
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LANDCRUISER-60-SERIES-OIL-PRESSURE-SENDER-UNIT-1-83-ON-/350173627767mine has a wire to the middle button but nothing to the other connection.
guess i will have to buy one and see if it changing it makes the in cab gauge working again.
like i said if i connect the middle button wire to the outter male connection i have high reading with ignition switch on. i dont have a wire for the outer connection or i cant find a wire that may of gone to it
cheers

mcgra,
I think I know what you are talking about so here goes.
If you connect the centre wire to the spade terminal on the sender the gauge then reads all the way over (maximum oil pressure). If what I have said is correct then the pressure gauge and wiring are fine. I would think that your oil sender has failed and if you install a new one all will be
well.
With the 2 wire system the second wire would be in a loom with the centre wire and would not have gone missing.
The senders certainly aren't cheap.

Mcgra,
sorry I didn't read your first post properly, if I had I would have deleted the first part of the reply above.
