Just spent the weekend down at
Bridgetown as support crew in the
Blackwood marathon. What a great event. First time for me.
The marathon is a run, canoe/ski/kayak paddle, swim, horse ride, and finally a bike ride totaling about 60kms. Some of the superhumans or ironmen/women actually do the whole course with one person. Normal people like the team I was supporting have individual competitors for each leg.
This event has been running for 33 years and takes place in some pristine environment in WA's southwest.
Lookup the website for more info -
http://www.mccays.com.au/theevent/default.htm
And if you want have a look at my little video of the event.
Anyone who is interested in being in the event there was multiple requests for people to enter in the events. Looks fun to me. I might look at being a participant next time. Of course it is as much a watching sport as
well.
Cheers
Serendipity

Hi Michelle
I did see the car with ski on top but guessed you guys would be competing and pretty focused on the event. I kept an eye out but there was just so many people.
We free camped at the trotting track.

That would have been fun! I hope you do give it a try next year - David first got into triathlon through starting with these events and he still comes back to these are they are fun, relaxed and the people are not too competitive. We make a nice family weekend out of it as all the team members bring down their families etc.
BTW - would you mind if I shared your video on my other website, www.triathlonoz.com? It's a great overview for people that haven't seen it before. You did a really good job of it too.

Gees. Dunno about the horse bit. That really makes it tough, plus they have no throttle and NO brakes. Have done the tri in times past and that was tough enough. Cheers,Bob.

Yes the horse is the tricky part. For most teams its very hard to get a rider/horse committed but you need a horse to qualify to a placing listed in the results, and if you're any good, the top 2
places are recognised with medals. Next year, Kate and I are looking for a rider - we have a
young girl who is keen but as Kate and I are both over 40, we'd prefer to get an older rider so we can enter the "Ladies Veteren's category".
So, consider that an invite ... anyone over 40 want to ride this event with Kate and I next year? Lady preferably, but male ok as there is a mixed team category too.
