Would like to fit a small but economical HWS to my 12ft van, whilst utilising the existing pump from tank. Anyone have suggestons to help me out please, even if have to instal flipover tap. Or are there any that have their own pump that would pump up out of bucket/drum?

thx for the link Notso....only one that would fit in space wise is the sink top one, but unsure if that will work off tank with small inline (switchable) pump.................plus only have a 1kva inverter gen.

once again thx all the same

Recently bought a Red Rock 6 litre. Would be easy to add to a van.

Check out the demo video.

Hi Kevmac,
In my opinion, unless you have an inbuilt shower, a HWS is an expensive luxury.
A large kettle/saucepan will get you enough hot water for a good wash, or a
portable shower and/or all the water required for a large dish washup.

Check out 12V bilge pumps for pumping out of buckets/drums (BFC have a good range in Albany).

Another cheap and easy way to have a shower is to use a Hills 5/7 litre pump-up garden sprayer. Fill with warm water, spray on, lather up and then spray off.

The same unit is handy for under vehicle spraying should you be unlucky enough to have a build up of grass start to smolder from exhaust pipe heat.

I agree, unless you have a shower, the HWS is not necessary IMHO. My camper has a HWS and it only gets used if having a shower. If just doing the dishes, I simply boil the kettle. Why heat up 14L of water (HWS size) when you only need ~3L.

kev mate forget any notion of heating water with electricity away from mains power.........it simply is not practical.

you need to burn somthing.... gas is the most convienient.

coleman do a portable gas hotwater system as do others.......but as has already been posted..as yourself do you realy need one.

The price of one of those portable gas hot water systems will buy you a pretty decent gass burner set up that has many uses.

My brother carries a gas rung that he runs of a 9kg bottle and he recons it will boil a 3/4 full 20 liter drum in 6 minutes flat.
It has water warm enogh for a shower or a bucket bath in a bcouple of minutes flat..and the same rig cooks his crabs or runs his barbq plate.

cheers

Kevmac,

Have a look at a Mercury HW60 hot water system,as seen on campertrailers.org

Have one and have not had a chance to use it yet.
