Kevin,
If you want to get to Hotham from a base
camp you would be better off in the Buckland Valley. S36 58.231 E146 56.146. There are no facilities there at all, so you need to be self contained. It does get
well used during holiday times. There is an interesting drive up
Dingo Ck track to one of the '
Guys Hut', ( there are three I think). You can get to Blue Rag and a lot of good tracks. You might need a
snorkel on some crossings. Any rain and it can be tricky.
Buckland valley road is a logging road so you need to use your
UHF radio to hear where the trucks are located, especially when towing. There are signsposts to identify your position BV1, BV2, BV20 etc, so you know where they are. If on my own i would just get on the UHF and say car and van at BV? They back up for no one.
Cheers,
Bill
