I am looking at getting a Taipan XP exhaust system and a DP chip installed on my 2008 Patrol 3.0l Common Rail Diesel 5sp Manual.

Has anyone had these units installed on their vehicles and what are the pros and cons of them? How much difference does it makes for city/highway driving, towing and 4WDing?

Also, Does anyone have power torque figures for before and after results?

Thanks

Had some great results on the VDJ79 and have covered it in my blog here. Would recommend steering away from the standard plug and play fuel pulse type chip and getting a comprehensive tuning ship. Time spent on a dyno is never wasted. Also plan on including an EGT Guage as part of the package.

CHIP & EXHAUST RESULTS

Cheers

G'day Patrol
Had the DP chip in my 2004 3.0l Auto and was very happy, so happy that I put one in my 100 series TD. The 3 inch exhaust came later and whilst I don't have the dyno figures. The exhaust seemed to make as much difference as the chip in the Cruiser.
Cheers

Have some info that may interest u on the chip and exhaust.
My '09 CRD 3ltr has been fitted out with a Steinbauer Chip and Taipan exhuast. A Dawes Valve was also fitted to prevent any undected spiking. I also have a factory fitted snorkel (I have also read on other sites that these do not do any favours for economy. True or False - I dunno). Upgrade was done by United Fuel Injectiuon in Perth. They be one of the leaders in this field. As explained to me at time of fitting, you will definately get more power but economy increase, if any, only comes with the way u drive it. Following are some figures that I have come up with from a log that I have run since buying the car new. Upgrade done at 13K. Now completed 40K (15K of which was heavy towing).

PRE UNGRADE (TAKEN AFTER 8000KMS DUE TIGHTNESS OF VEHICLE). ALL FIGURES ARE AVERAGED.
Economy: City/Hwy (normal load) 8.1 kms/ltr 12.3 ltrs/100kms

POST UPGRADE
Economy: City/Hwy (normal load) 8.1 kms/ltr 12.3 ltrs/100kms
AS U CAN SEE - NO DIFFERENCE (I am also a sedate sort of driver)
Economy: Country (all conditions road & weather) towing a Caravan weighing in at 2400kg when loaded. Worked on 15K of use:
5.3 kms/ltr 18.8 ltrs/100kms (Avg spd 85-95kph)

POWER: There is a definate increase in power, especially noted when towing in a hilly environment, not noted as much on the flat but obviously is there. Not too many rigs of similar size can keep up with me in the hills. Incidentialy, got done by camera, fully loaded going UP Greenmount Hill (outskirts of Perth) doing 81kph (70 zone). Good start for a half block trip around, only left home half hour before.

DYNO FIGURES:
PRE UPGRADE 98KW (133HP) @ 3223RPM 315NM @ 2317RPM
POST UPGRADE 123KW (167HP) @3475RPM 364NM @ 2569RPM

Hope all that helps in making decision

Thanks Diesel, That is very helpful information and exactly what I was after.

I did notice with your dyno figures that the peak power/torque figures were produced at a higher RPM Post upgrade. Do you have to rev you truck harder now to get that peak performance? What is it like low in the rev range?

Hello Patrol GU

Figures given are direct off the chart supplied by United Fuel.
Of revving the truck harder I would say NO. What u do notice and I picked it up straight away was that from a standing start, I was going thru the gears faster, obviously getting up to cruising speed faster.
Of getting to peak performance figures , these be cutting in pre cruising, dropping down to overtake or goin up hills in a lower gear.
Not realy taken much notice of difference in the Low Rev range i.e. FWD.

Of the economy figures I have given previously, the RPM is between 2050 - 2250 (5th gear). There is plenty in reserve for passing etc. Yes I do use 5th when towing, but only in selected conditions (if the motor sounds good, all is good).
