As the ever reliable Jack is approaching a timing belt service, I would appreciate input
re the possible service/replacement of a
water pump at the same time. I recall reading
that this was an opportune time for same. I dont intend doing it myself but would like
to give my mechanic a heads up on what may be required. 3.5L V6 petrol.
cheers.....oldbaz.

G'Day,
I cannot give specifics as to the Jackaroo but I used to change the timing belt on the Hilux myself & would always do a coolant &
water pump change at the same time. Much easier to access the
water pump while the covers are off for the timing belt.
Also good insurance to change the timing belt idler pulley & tensioner puller as
well.
I did not change the pulleys on a car I used to own & the pulley bearings siezed resulting in broken timing belt & a $600 towing fee! Luck would have it that no valves hit the piston.
Cheers
Stu

It just occured to me that your Jackaroo is a petrol engine.
Many petrol engines use a timing chain rather than a belt. This does not need changing if this is the case. Not sure which system the Jack uses.

OldBaz,
Had my
water pump changed at the same time (as
well as the tensioners and a few other bits and bobs), One of the club members (holden 4WD WA) didn't and had to replace the
water pump 12 monthe later.

Yes it is an opportune time to get the pump done and the mechanic would probably suggest it too.
I bought a timing belt kit and
water pump off ebay when my 3.5 jack was due for a belt. Have a search on ebay for the 2 items to get some prices. Was alot cheaper that way. Then just gave them to my mechanic to install.
cheers

Hi Oldbaz, when I do the timing belt on the MUs I also make sure it is time to do the other belts, plus it is easier to do if you have the radiator out and give it a flush at the same time.
