Here on the Darling Downs we are experiencing a larger number of brown snakes getting around. So if your planning a trip be careful. Dogs are getting bitten and I had first hand experience myself yesterday of how they scare the hms out of you. I was unlocking a toilet block at our school not even thinking about them and it was trying to get in the door I was unlocking. Last one actually got in. While I was waiting for someone to take care of it, I was watching where it went. It actually crawled half way up the door trying to get in so they will try to get in anywhere.
Just be aware.

They are everywere here in the Hunter Valley at the moment too!

Old timers in the Singleton area are saying they've never seen so many browns and so few blacks as this spring.

Keep the house yards clean and well mowed.

Geoff,

Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

One reason we have more browns is the easily seen blacks are being killed off. As they predate heavily on Browns and Tigers this leaves more of nasty ones arround.

I've got some cousins who live on a cattle property here in NQ. You would think they should have plenty of Taipans & Browns because of the terrain where they live & there is a good supply of rats around the horse feed. Instead they have plenty of large olive pythons & rarely see a Brown or Taipan.
Their theory is that the Olives eat the other snakes.

Browns eat black and blacks eat browns equally as they are different, unrelated species
Perhaps the current weather conditions are favoring the Browns more in your area????

AlbyNSW posted:

yep its more a case of bigger snake eats smaller snake

but snakes arnt exactly prolific feeders on anything

while they would predate on each other to some extent it wouldnt be to any noticable amount

1 cat will take out more snakes as will one stretch of road
