Question: Buying a Tent

Am thinking of buying an Oz tent 30 second tent and was wondering if anyone has ever taken one on a plane? I'd like to camp but fly to destinations because I travel by myself.

Being 2mts long might be a problem, I suppose it depends where you're going and size of the plane.
Cheers Dave.

I would be surprised if there was any sort of a problem. I have seen surfboards, cellos and who knows what else flying around on the baggage carousel.

I am sure a quick call to your preferred airline would get you an answer.

Good luck.

after some of the things I saw people stuffing in the overhead lockers on my last overseas jaunt I can't see why you couldn't take it as cabin luggage ...

My Uncle flys a couple of times a year and has never had any probs with his surfboards. He has a proper bag for them and never had an issue.

The tent can be carried on a plane, but need to watch the weight limits. However what about bedding, cooking, storing food, a fridge or esky etc... there is more to camping than just a tent.

I would suggest you get a sierra designs tent from USA. They are cheap buying direct, extremely well made, lightweight. I used to put mine up in the dark in about 2 minutes. It is also the most waterproof tent i have ever had. Mine weighs 2.1 kilos, and it fits in your backpack!

Just curious, went you fly into to to the local airfield how to plan on getting to your camping spot?. You could hire a 4wd in the bigger towns, but thats not going to happen in remote areas.

not sure - but i'm guessing that if J V flies to his destinations and travels and camps by himself, he could be in a small plane ? surfboards and longish things, as many have said, are not a problem on the bigger planes, but when you get to a regional small operator....hmmmm, troubles may arise.
sorry J V but a bit more info may help you
