We had a Windsor Rapid which was bought out before the Expanda and were very pleased with it. No shower or
toilet but the finish, fixtures and fittings were better than the Jaycos around at that time.
If you're going to use van parks there's really no need for your own facilities and if you do go for a van with those things, watch the
water you use, as it'll disappear fast.

I have had a 16' outback expanda for a few years now (2006 Model)I wouldn't be without it,we only use it a few times a year but we love it.
I have three
young girls and have no trouble with heaps of room all round.
Beds were a little hard at first but now we are use to them, there is an expanda
forum that has lots of information ,feel free to join and ask as many questions as you like.
Expanda Forum
I had to upgrade my tow vehicle from petrol to turbo diesel and now we don't even know it's behind.
I have friends with a shower and
toilet model and very rarely use it except for the kids at night.

Hi kingee,
I have a 16-49-3 Outback Hardlid Expanda. It's done about 20,000kms since new in 2009. No problems with the minor exception of some screws in a drawer slide coming loose. I would recommend replacing the screws in all the drawers with slightly longer ones as I did and all will be good.
The shower/
toilet is handy but we only use it for 'night stops' . We also ordered ours with a 150L fridge. Feeding 4 ,it's the best addition we did. Sacrificed some bench space for it but plenty of room for the 'end of drive beers'.We also removed the table after our first weekend away in it . Makes getting in and out of the front bed much easier and allows heaps of room inside. If we want a table inside we just put up a folding table.
If you can afford it look at an Outback model. The extra ground clearance is useful. Never looked like dragging the rearend. Two friends have onroad models. One is standard height and has scraped over driveways and speed humps. The other one had his 17' expanda axles underslung to give more height but now wishes he'd gone for the outback pack.
I tow
mine with a 3.2 TD Triton and it's a dream to tow. Stable at speed ,even on windy days.
Happy choosing!

If you buy a Jayco, be prepared to spend a lot of money on repairs. It will leak like a sieve in
places you would not believe, the
water inlet probably won't work, the electrics will be crap and the best you can hope for is a cleansing fire so you can get the insurance and buy another, proper, van. Jayco = Junk.
Cheers, Tony

Mine and my two friends expandas have not had any problems other than the small screws in the drawers. All Jaycos and all working PERFECTLY! This is my second and will certainly look at a third when the time comes. Plumbing..fine, Electrics, fine, watertight even though they are all expandas with canvas ends. All three have been out in some very heavy weather in Tassie and two in Nth Qld. Dry as you want inside.
My first van was a
well flogged Eagle when I got it. Everything worked fine.
During a 10,000 km trip in 2009 I passed three vans on the roadside having undervan 'issues' not one was a Jayco.
When a manufacturer has such a large market share there is bound to be a few vans with problems. I've owned two and had none.Had I listened to all the Jayco knockers I would probably not have even bought my first van and enjoyed the lifestyle as it was all I could afford at the time.
Nice trolling btw...:)

We have one of the earliest expandas 2005 16.49-1 and we are on our second loop in the past 2 years as
well as many quite lengthy trips in between. We cannot recommend the Expanda highly enough. We tow 16 foot but the inside of that is pure living space which is so valuable on longer trips or in the rain etc. There are huge numbers of them on the way around Oz compared with our trip in 09 so I guess that says an awful lot. When the public vote with their feet I guess you have to take notice.
God luck!
