I have a 98 Prado with factory fitted keyless entry.

The remotes no longer lock/unlock the vehicle and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/information regarding problems or fixes.

Appreciate any advice

Hve to plead total ignorance with this, the batteries in the remotes seem fine, is there another battery if so, any help on where to locate it would be appreciated

Most systems work on a masters and slaves your starting point is to look at the drivers master first if all fuses etc check out. Any competent auto elect. will be able to tell you what the problem is in twenty minutes or less. Often if the master has died it is cheaper to fit aftermarket system to replace, but you usually have to do all four door at $40 for four plus installation. Check with the price of dealer ones before you go to an auto elect. as to be armed with the price of your worst case scenario , if he says that is the problem then you can elect to supply the parts.

Sounds like the battery in the remote to me as well.

Also, you can increase the range of the remote by removing the left hand side kickboard, finding the wire aerial coming out of the remote control black box and hanging it up, so its able to work like an aerial.

To all those who gave advice thanks.

Went to a friendly Toyota dealer(not the closest one), young guy was given some instructions to follow on paper. "I have to flap my arms, clap my hands, and stamp my feet." (have you ever seen the instructions for resetting remotes??) It didn't work but was amusing to watch. "Sorry you'll have to book it in, can't give you a price depends on how long it takes to find the problem."

On the way home, I had a thought, "the computer at home freezes, so we turn it off and on and it works again." Got home, disconnected the battery and reconnected it. Bingo it works!!!

Glad we didn't book it in!!!
