Didn't think that was to bad on a quick 600k trip up the coast, sitting on 100- 110-120km/hr , Just two of us on board and a luggage bag, ..The big mistake was not filling up before we left, the price difference up and down the East Coast NSW really gives you the...... That was last Weekend, next Weekend will be a down South run hopefully..lol.

They are nice Pete, Mines still got that piston slap.. but dosen't seem to worry it, The Lexus has different pistons in the engines fitted to them over the cruisers, i believe, Toyo play around a bit ..lol.

Touareg V8s have 54HP and 150Nm higher output from a smaller displacement and use 3l less than that.
The Toyo motor appears to be a dinosaur :>

True Pete but they are not the only factors that come into play. The Toyo may be boring, but hardly a dinosaur. Toyota are conservative but thats part of the reason they have a reputation for proven reliability. In the all the years I have owned vehicles, all the makes, German, Japanese and Australian, the Toyo has been the most reliable by miles. I place reliability before every other feature.

VW's ain't the most reliable, or least expensive to repair girls on the block. You can enjoy those extra horses while they last though, I suppose.

Hmm, which one would be the Dinosaur after about 6 or so years of use?

True, there are pros and cons for everything.

But having taken out the top three places in this years Dakar race this baby has got something to offer.

Check out the looks of this street version of the winning beast...

Dont want to brag but we have just returned from a day trip - Karratha to Port Hedland return - just over 500 klms sitting on 114 on the highway and then stop start a few times around Hedland. 40 degree day.

Fuel average was 9.8 litres per hundred - fuel cost was $1.61 per litre diesel.

We have a LC200 diesel.

Sure your fuel was cheaper than ours!!

Wish we were over East again.

Cheers

I would kill to get that sort of economy out of our 200 series.... try 17-19 liters per 100, and Toyota say's it's about right.

How about between 20 to 25 liters per 100 towing a van, back to 17 to 20 without the van.
Cheers

Terrafirma,

Your definately on the the money there ! I usually get 12.5lph with 2 up, luggage & giving it a bootfull where needed on a trip in the 200 Petrol. Would probably see around 12lph if one spared the right foot, but it's such a joy to drive, so what the heck !

I get 18 - 22 l/100km when towing my 2.2T Camper and when not towing I get 13l/100km around town and on the open road as good as 11l/100km - and thats with all my mods that have a negative effect on economy. But if you use all the ponies that the 200 has got, very easy to get 17+l/100km around town :)

Cheers

Just returned from a trip from Bathurst NSW to Cresent Head, then to Tumut NSW in the snowy mountains and return.

We towed our Kimberley Kamper fully loaded, 2 adults and 2 kids with out 2004 Holden Adventra Cx8. 5.7ltr chev V8, 250kw, 500nm, for an average fuel economy of less than 15lt per 100k (14.8 to be exact).

There is something to be said about the good old V8, very unstressed towing, 1850rpm @ 100kph and no issues if you need to over take anything up a hill.

This is one of the most comfortable and supprising vehicles I have owned for covering vast distances on the black stuff predominately.

In saying that I have just done a deal with a mate for his 1HZ 80 series non Turbo (for off roading) so god help me. It's been a few years since I had one of these but they re write the defenition of slow.

Regards

It's hard to beat bull---t eh fellas

I have noticed my economy fluctuate by probably close to 25% on the same runs.
My current hilux will go from 9 l/100 down to 7/100 running up & down the same highway.
Fuel quality, wind direction, traffic conditions, load, distance since service, temperature & aircon use, driving style & god knows how many other things have to be factored in to work out why.
Even the mathematical ability & the personality of the person doing the calculations. Some people don't know how to get an accurate reading. Some will only use best ever figures. Some people won't let the truth stand in the way of the ability to go one up.
Most people I have talked to on this subject can't get it right.
I think some don't even understand.
I am not saying everyone on here is full of it.
I am saying that most peoples figures can not be taken as accurate reflections of your cars ability.
There are too many variables to be regarded as accurate figures.
If you could keep accurate figures of fuel used & km done over very long periods of time you would get an more accurate average of your individual performance.
But how can you compare that with somebody else's performance.
All those factors I mentioned earlier come in to play.
You can compare I suppose. But it would not be an accurate comparison.
There are too many variables.
Even those gauges in the dash that work out fuel consumption can be quite inaccurate. I have 2 cars with those & I have found inaccuracies in both of them.
By the way Axle, I would be pretty happy with 14.5l/100k out of a 2.5 tonne car with plenty of power too.

You don't need to be a rocket scientest to work out your fuel consumption figures. Mine was done simply based on the kms done and the fuel used on that particular trip. Whilst their will be many variables as to how and where you drive and the economy you get, the actual fuel used for the kms travelled is no great mistery .
