Where are the grommet holes to put cables into the cabin of a Dmax?

G'day all

I have had a look underneath, and inside the cabin of my Dmax and can only find one grommet that I can pull out to feed a cable through, but I can't get the interior lining off.

I need to get two cables through for the rearview cameras and I really don't want to start drilling holes unless I have to.

Has anyone been successful in finding a way into the cabin?

Help would really be appreciated.

I ended up using piercing the rubber grommet around the main loom on the drivers side and using that on the colorado.
Just as well because it's a double firewall with a void in the middle.

So it looks as though I will have to go through the fire wall rather than some where near the rear.

Bu##er, OK. I'll have a look at the main loom. Thanks mate.

On the drivers side fire wall up high and near thetop left hand cnr I can see a large blck 'grommet' with only one cable/ wire that goes into the fire wall and I presume it passes through to the cabin.

It does not look like a main loom. They appear to have made very few holes linking the engine compartment to the cabin.

I'll keep looking.

BB Hi,
Have a look around the door sill area, Quite often You can run cables down the side panel in front of the door then through the sill & pick up an opening at the rear of the sill.

You're righ,t I have found those grommets, they are on the back wall down the bottom on the o/side. Unfortunatley I can't get the inside panel off. I have got the bottom panel off (the narrow bit that runs parallel to the seat. It just popped of, but I can't see what is holding the 'wall panel' on and I'm not game to give it a big yank!

Oh by the way the holles are just the right size.

The 40 degree heat is not helping either. LOL

Boo Boo - I just drilled holes where I needed them (I have about 5 extra holes) and put my own grommets in :-)

GO FOR IT !

One hole on the floor for the HF antenna cable I tried something different to make it 100% water proof. I drilled a hole big enough to get the connecter through, put the cable in and then I used the 2 part kneaded epoxy to plug the hole & cable. Works a treat and also covers the metal to prevent any chance of rust.

Cheers Tony

You have my utmost respect.

Anyone who is game enough to cut or drill into a new car has nerves of steel. LOL

I'm glad I found the opening.

Too right :-)

I put the snorkel on when it had about 100k on it - Boy does that hurt :-)

The ho;es have to be spot on and you have to cut out a quite large hole to fit all the intake gear.

The worst part is then trying to get your hands in the back to get nuts and bolts on - A day full of choice words I can assure you :-)

They do not stay new long...we were scraping branches down the side within the first week - We use it as a 4x4 :-)

Best of luck & Cheers Tony

Tony

I finnished the job at 5pm today.

Forty one degrees, but I needed to get it done before we head to Broken Hill Saturday,

I am actually going to drill 2 holes in the fibre glass pod, but I'll wait until I get to Adelaide in 3 weeks and let the BIL do it. LOL

The Dmax is normally used for towing and carrying. The wife freaks out a bit when we do any off road stuff.

OK

Just as I was about to take a chainsaw to the back of the cab I found a way in.

At the back I had a close look at the pressure flaps and found the way in using a reusable cable tie as a guide.

I'll put the other cable in tomorrow and hopefully have it all done by lunch.

Well,,,,,, maybe by late afternoon.

Thanks for your help,, always appreciated.
