hello to all . i'm looking to talk with some whom has welding technical advise , i' am modifying a vehical that was once front engine driven to a rear engine drive vehical . it's not a 4wd although i have 2 other 4wd vehicales ,but the honda prelude i am modifying in many ways , shape of vehical /engine placement , this car may get registered or not ,if not it will be a racing car but on the off change i get it right with welding the chassis in the best legal way and strengthability to drive perfectly onroad or racetrack . the rear chassis being cut of and added a front engine bay chassis has been attacthed and they both line up perfectly and have been mig welded ,engines been mounted and all looks perfect ,now its a case of structually welding it inside the chassis , my question is there anyone hear in brissy that can help in this matter? paul.

Paul,
this may help and if you contact some of the Brisbane people named in this link I am sure they will put you on the right track.

Drag/hotrod chassis builders.

Have a good one,
RA.

Hi Paul
The only way I can see you getting it registered is as a one off built under the hot rod rules like Rockape said contact one of the hot rod chassis builders it may require a completely new chassis as most hot rods are built
Shifting the engine from front to rear and still getting the thing to handle properly especially under race conditions takes more then swapping subframes front to back not to mention what CAMS are going to want
Best of luck
Cheers Kev

Hi Paul,
The splicing of the chassie will need to be engineered along with the welding procedure used. A 90 deg parellel splice will probable get rejected very quick. Things that get taken into account will be load, material type etc. Some makers use a spring type steel or above 350 grade which requires preheating even to tack. The only way you will get this project on the road is to have it engineered.
Be mindful that a weld that looks good means very little.

Regards
Craig

Mate you have somewhere between none and bucklies chance of getting anything like that registered in QLD, and the way things are going with NOCP in any other state.

Secondly, most pasenger cars are monococ construction, have no chasis and depend for strength on the whole body.

so any chasis modifications is going to be serious major engineering.

As far as a race car.....well there will be bigger issues than welding the chasis if you want it to be anygood.

AND..exactly what formular are you going to race in, and how does what you want to do sit with the regs for that formular.

for instance if it is a CAMS "sports sedan" not a hope.

Ya might run it as a , motorkahna special, hill climb special, or a drag car, but i cant think of any other CAMS formular it would qualify for.

cheers
