New member, novice Van owner although have spent many an hour reading articles in the
Forum.
Question is, I recently purchase a Jayco Freedom Pop Top (Year 2000). Previous owner had removed the on board battery and holder. At time of purchase I was lead to believe by the salesman that all I had to do was purchase a suitable battery and connect up to the cables from the Converter and this would supply power for the caravan lights and power for the TV, Air Con,Range Hood and Microwave. Although not all at the same time. So I have purchased a new suitable battery(120amp), connected it up and what do I get.Lights for the Van work ok. All the other items requiring power however do not work. I am only interested in having power for TV and Air Con should the need arise whilst travelling,eg
free camping. Have I been dupped or can someone advise me on how to overcome this problem ,if it is at all possible. The Converter is a Centurion 3000 CS series.

Hi Ivan a battery will not run a air con or microwave or rangehood . It will run your lights and if fitted a plug to run your tv . 120amp battery will run all your lighting at least for three weeks of
camping maybe two weeks pending on how much you run a tv . Providing the tv is 12volt .

Thanks for that.
Well at least I will have plenty of light. Will invest in a 12volt fan and ensure that we select shady areas when/if we
free camp.

Think you have been dudded, air con would require massive battery to run. TV should run from inverter, but much better to get a 12 volt one as they are more efficient than running 12-240 volt invertor. I would be going back and seeing the sales person and take him to task over his claims.

I'll second that John.
Ivan, the microwave and aircon is only normally wired to take 240 volt - when connected to that source, whether it be from town power or generator set.
Both our first van (camper style) and current van only run lights and our tv from the 'house battery' - the tv will plug into the 12v socket when the AC pack is removed. I would expect your van is the same fitout.
I would certainly be challenging the van salesman on this issue.
