Hi James,
I have a 2000 TD5 Disco with about the same kms. I have had it for a couple of years and am happy with it. Before that I had a earlier V8 Disco for about 6 years. I am probably biased but I would have the Dsico over the Jackaroo any day.
The Dsico's seem to be as relaible as any other similar 4WD, parts can be a bit expensive, but not too bad. The first Dicso the only major problems I had with it was the air conditioner died and cost a heap to fix. Also a fuel injection relay died and stuck me up once.
With the TD5 the only major problems so far have been a diesel regulator block and the
water pump have both had to be replaced. Plus a wierd problem of oil creeping up the wiring loom from the injectors.
As with anything find a good mechanic and keep the servicing up to it and it will be reliable.
The TD5 is a 7 seater, but the rear seats are only suitable for kids, any kid over about 14 will complain about sitting in the back.

Thanks James,
Mine is a '99 ES Auto is chipped and has done 270 od thousand kays.It averages around 10.2 km/ l without the van. Yes I had a few problems mainly a head replacement. I will not go into the detais except to say that the new owners of landrovers were the problem there. I have replaced the injector wiring loom and a
water pump.
If you do buy it there are two things I would have checked and that is to have the oil pump bolt checked an make sure it has been locktited in. The second thing is the spin filter bolts make sure they have not been over tightenedand partialy stripped. If they have, get your service bloke to put helicoils in.
As Marty says they are just as reliable as any other vehicle with computers.
As for the Jackarro, the B in L has one it is reasonably thirsty and he also had a few problems.

Availability and parts for Jackaroo is a financial and finding nightmare.

Righto
So you would say the disco, but pretty much do the checks and make sure you look at the log book before buying?

Check aulro.com James and you'll find an answer for everything Land Rover on there.
Not a Disco but I had a Td5 Defender and the only problem I had was the throttle potentiometer playing up.
Actually the real problem was getting it fixed not the defect itself.
Cheers.
