Hi
I have had this idea of a pop up caravan camper that can travel the
Canning Stock Route but still contains the comforts of home.
I have found that none of the mainstream caravan companies build such a machine.
I have decided to build my own, but require some knowledge as to construction methods.
I request that if anyone has come across any instruction manuals on basic caravan construction that may assist me with this project.
Thanks
Jeff

If you want to build a caravan/camper that can travel the Canning that's fine but seeing you have no real idea of construction methods I would be looking at buying a professional built one.... it might save you a lot of headaches.

Jeff,
Check out Elross caravans in WA.
They build to order and all are offroad speci unless you order otherwise.
See today's West Australian for more info.

Hi Jeff,
After travelling around the country in kedron towed by a F250, I decided to build a smaller unit that could do what you mentioned. In fact I looked at buying a Kimberly Karavan / Quantum / Complete
campsite / Topaz but could not afford the $60 + thousand. So I just copied what I thought was the best features of each.
I have some of the fit out to do but most of the rest if finished. It has 4
wheels and is 4.5 meters long. Has a combined shower /
toilet. My mates think it looks like a checkerplate tool box on
wheels. So if you need some ideas let me know and I can send over pics of the project. Total to date is $13,500 and I think it will be finished by $15.000.
Certainy recomend it as a project and I have learned a great deal in the process. Should point out however that I am just north of
Brisbane and have access to many suppliers. Not sure in
Perth if some of the material would be available or what prices are like there.
Getting the actual pop top materials has been some of the hardest part.

Jeff,
Some years back, say 4 or more, someone put some photos on this site, of a camper he was building. He put up numerous photos, and it looked pretty good, so that might give you some ideas, or find out who did it.
Sorry I can't be more specific about when it was.
Bob.
