Hi, I have a HD Toyota Hilux Alloy canopy that is about to get a custom-made canopy fitted. I'm looking for material to be a clear, fixed window for inside the headboard. It would need no be have some straight, & some curved cuts, be able to be drilled to allow fixing, withstand jarring during travel, & maintain a high see-through visibilty for some years. Security isn't a great issue, as there is already a steel mesh grille there.

What material would be the go for this - acrylic ( e.g. Perspex), polycarbonate (e.g. Lexan), safety glass, etc.?

Cheers.

I've just built a canopy, got the local glass and aluminium company to build just what you are looking for. They used the extrusion that is used as the top rail off a sliding al shower screen door. This gave me a lip to pop rivet the panel straight into a hole I cut in the aluminium chequer plate I used for the canopy. They used 6mm laminated glass, cost me about $100. It wont scratch and should last for years

Tell ya what i'll do. LOL if I can work out how to send photos in the next couple of days, I certainly will, I'm a bit chuffed with the whole setup. Got the struts done today, if I could do a central locking thingo, I'd be pleased. 6 locks to unlock is a pain.

Thanks HappyG,

The canopy manufacturer isn't keen to go large on a window, as it will increase the chance of the safety glass cracking. I wan't to maximize the size for rear-vision visibility to minimize the chance of me backing into another vehicle - which would cost more than having to look at a cracked canopy window of the $$$ to fix it! What size did you go to? Cheers.
