Hi All.
Friend of
mine is looking at buying one with the intention of taking it on to
the beach.
Does anybody have experience with Holden Captiva (diesel) and sand driving.
can it handle beach driving, or will it just dig in.
Any suggestion appreciated.
Cheers Rob.

Rob,
From what I have seen I would take a shovel and snatch strap.
Cheers

Hi
Drove my xtrail petrol from one end of
Stockton Beach to the other & back so i would think the Captiva will handle the sand you just lower the tyre pressures about 1/2 & yes carry a snatch strap it may come in handy.

Hi Grant,
Did you try Lavis Lane dunes as I would be very interested how the xtrail performed.

My brother in law has a xtrail. Every Christmas we as a family go on a holiday. Between us all we have a Prado, Hilux, 105 Cruise and a xtrail. To date (4yrs) the xtrail has never faulted on Dunes, access tracks and beach. I have been VERY impressed how it performs in sand. On rutted tracks clearance is an issue and on occasions it needs a bit of help. It does however have two recovery (Yes recovery) hooks on the front and one on the rear so recoverys isn't an issue.

My X-Trail out performed my mates Nissan Patrol on
Stockton Beach. I was able to climb dunes that he was getting stuck on. I was impressed with it on the sand.
As for off road work I will take my HJ80 any time.

Long as you air down, it will fly. My wife has one. She had a Frontera and took it to Five Rocks north of
Rockhampton. Real heavy sand coming out. I was taking videos. A V 8 Hilux dug in right in front of the camera, never saw them again. A Patrol roared up the
hill. Same thing. Gone. Son was driving her Frontera with the 2000cc engine and four on board. Flew up the
hill and past me to the top. Great video to prove it all. Yes our rubber was aired down. So go for it. Amagic fun and comfy vehicle for the thousand plus clix drive to
Brisbane each way from here. She does it often to visit the Family there (and Hyperdome ;-) RockyOne

Rob
Drop your tyre pressures down to below 15 psi and you will basically go anyehere..
Carry a compresser, and a 7000lb snatch strap, just in case
Problem with Captiva, will be ground clearence and somehere to hook up a snatch strap to.
Do they come with recovery points ?
Better check with the "General" first
Cheers

Have a look at post 88739 from Fab72 who drove his wife's Captiva up Bug Red. An interesting story about the capability of the Captiva.

Cape May County’s retail hub in the Rio Grande section of Middle was unusually deserted Thursday,

except for a couple of diners, a pharmacy, and convenience stores. But a few department stores,
ladies wrist watches
including Walmart and Kmart, bucked the trend, remaining open on the holiday to give shoppers a jump on their Christmas lists.Perhaps because of these uncertain times, shoppers will beeline for the stores that meet their need for bargains, at least that’s the hope of retailers.
