Yeah there are some nasty problems
You get this smile on your face that just wont go away while you drive the beast.
Also people keep looking at you when you are in the car -
well it might be the car they are looking at cause I ain't that good to look at.
Whenever you stop anywhere people come up to you just to tell you your ute looks great - its a little embarrassing especially if you are dressed up in you best hi-vis work clobber.
So these are just some of the problems you will have to live with.
Oh yeah - and passing people on the highway - I think some just pull over - get out of their cars and chuck a match back in. Could cause big bush fires.
Cheers

Seriously a post on here by Rockape who is very knowledgeable on this subject outlines some of the extreme problems that may occur if you use the ute in underground mining. He does qualify his post by saying you would have to treat the ute pretty hard to get those problems and normal use would not get near that.
A search will find his posts.
My V8 79 series is running fine after 3 years. Had one injector changed under warranty, and a double seal fitted to the oil scavenging pump at about 30,000 after it started using a bit of oil. Now it is fine. 110,000 kms.
Cheers

Here she is the mighty 1HZ V8 crusher.
Still going with all her original running gear (except for springs/shocks and CV's)
Note! the V8's she has killed in the background and that is not even half of them. She is still going strong.

Seriously the V8 will be fine in normal use. I still have my reservations on body quality and the ease of getting to and the placement of components.
Have a good one and they go
well,
RA.

I've had
mine for 4 years now. Done 100,000km most in the Cooper Basin. It has never missed a beat. It runs better now than when new.
Brilliant machine, you can't kill em.

..I'm with u Skippype, ( and Serendipity(WA) ), almost exactly same problems.
.. done 146,000, bog standard Toyota service, and factory
bits. "Brilliant machine, you can't kill em." However, windows tinted all round
to save the Serendipity 'embarrassment' factory. Love it.

We love our 07 model. We went from an T/D Gxl 80 series. Touch wood mechanics are great.
Things we have done:
larger fuel
tank (1200 km on our last dirt trip towing the camper)
suspension upgrade
Air Compressor
Window tint
roof rack
center roof console
Wish list:
Front seats
rear draw
side rails and side steps
Like Serendipity we notice lots of people looking at it. Waving at us all the time.

I've heard this fault happens with a lot of Toyota models. Seems to be some people get sore feet and ankles after driving for a while. Evidently when you stop and get out you cant resist jumping in the air and clicking you heels together and saying o what a feeling.

I have the 2008 V8 Troopy – Twice around Australia towing a 3 tonne van – 78,000 Ks.
Uses 1 litre oil per 10,000 when towing. ½ litre oil per 10,000 when taking it easy.
Well within the limits specified by Toyota.
Probally get rid of it in 12 months time and get another - can't be bettered for what I do.

We've just brought an '08 V8 Troopy....5 seater because we have to take the kids :(
One thing that bemused me was the fact that Toyota just bunged the old dash in without widening it to suit the car....you can see
the gap between the end of the dash and the door! We've had an older 79 series ute and even a 75 series and I'm sure that wasn't the case!
I'm sure the models with the newer dash aren't like that though.
Anyone else noticed? I'm wondering if my Husband would have noticed if I hadn't!

The worst thing about not owning a Landcruiser turbo diesel is having to read all the waffle extolling them.
"They never break down, are sublimely comfortable, will go everywhere and never use oil or fuel in large quantities. will tow 3.5tonne over any surface at any speed."
The list goes on and on..................................methinks the owners are trying to convince themselves that it's all true.
Disco
(who is not the slightest bit envious. Don't like them, wouldn't buy one and don't need anything that big or expensive anyway.)
