Hi Charlie,
I have just insured my CT with AAMI. They said they would cover on any road in australia. By road, it must be on some sort of map. They dont cover going over sanddunes in the Simpson desert or driving it down a beach.
Hope they will be good! :)

So what about the main beach on Fraser Is - is obviously a beach but also a gazetted road.

Don't trust your insurance company.
You might want to email them & ask them what their definition is of a ROAD.
Might be as confusing as what they call a FLOOD.
I have often wondered what a road is myself.
We once had CGU insurance that stated we were covered in all parts of Australia. Our broker said it meant anywhere in Australia including off road.
Try getting a quote out of a broker. It can't hurt & you should be able to have some assurance of getting the insurance you want.

Hi Charlie,
There is a 4x4 wheel drive club which does it apparently .You used to have to be a member but we have recently been told that you don't have to be a member
any more.
Australian National 4x4 Radio Net work Inc. They might be able to tell you the one. http://www.vks.on.net or E-mail info@vks737.on. net what state your contact will be.
Take care, safe travels. Bye for now, Ma

I just changed from AAMI to CIL even though it cost me more. They have an excellent reputation. Just check out their web site.

Just had a claim with CIL, due to dodgy welds the stub axel sheared off my Camper trailer and rolled on its side it was deemed a total loss by the insurance company, this happened while travelling to Cape York, CIL were very good to us and very easy to deal with, just picked up a new Camper Trailer and I have insured it with CIL also.

Just be very carefull with any of the main stream insurers.......

Some of them are "not comfortable" with "unusual risks", and there underwriting and claims polocy reflects that.

you need to talk with people who have had experiences and get specific advice from the isnurer about what they cover and how they handle it.

I know a bloke that busted the suspension out from under his camper on the birdsville track....clearly a gazetted road......big hole bust crash tinkle.......by the time the whole thing worked out and the near new van was written off and they baught the wreck from the company...they would have been better off uninsured.

This company, simply was not equiped to manage the recovery and repair and after one bungle after another, they simply threw their hands in the air and wrote the thing off.

So make sure you find a company that has a reliable history of managing remote area claims on off road vehicles.......rather than a company that cant see past family cars in the city.

cheers

Just google TCIS Insurance, they cover your 4WD and camper anywhere in Aus, and they really mean anywhere....
