G'day, fuel filter light will be set to show a high differential pressure across the fliter, indicating a blocked filter, maybe fuel flow when planting the foot is causing a high differential also, hence the light coming on. If this is the case, you can either live with it or get a better flowing fuel filter. My two cents worth. John

John

I reckon its filter doing what it is designed to do - trap crap in the fuel and then tell you about it.

If It was me and the Fuel Filter was replaced by yourself approx 4,000kms ago and allegedly hasn't been touched since, the first thing I would do is change the filter again.

Reason being is that what ever was in the fuel the first time that caused this issue, was still going through the fuel lines and being caught by the new filter.

This plus the ensuing 4,000kms of fuel and its possible 'inherent crud' has most probably got the fuel system to the stage where, when it wants extra fuel to the pump under 'load,' the filter is choked with non fuel particles to the point that it can't pass the fuel at the rate required.

Changing the filter is a cheap fix and is more than likely the solution to your problem.

Have to admit that in your case I have never taken an interest in what filters are available.

I use OEM on my two CRD's (JEEP & 200) and all is well.

On my 75's 1997 Troopy I have changed the setup to a Lucas designed Filter utilizing Delphi filter cartridges. It has a glass bowl on the bottom that allows an inspection of the fuel passing through and contaminants trapped, especially water.

I remember a Diesel Tech/mechanic/pump specialist telling me years ago that in the big scheme of things - Filters are the cheapest insurance you will ever get with a Diesel engine and change them regularly.

The aforementioned two CRD's have filter changes at recommended service intervals as they are both City and/or Highway travellers and the bushpig Troopy gets a change every 10,000Kms whether it needs one or not.

Having said that. I have had to change the Troopy filter once , much earlier than intended due to the Delphi filter clogging up with some sort of contaminant undetectable to the naked eye. After putting through a few tanks of diesel afterwards I changed it again and all has been good ever since.

So if I were you in the short term I would just replace the Filter with an OEM product until you can source a better product if available.

Also just had a thought, my Troopy came with two fuel filter packs, both about the same size.

First one was a pre filter which the service dudes never changed (very strange I thought at the time) and the second one which had the Primer pump on it. So check your setup as there might be a second filter pack hidden out of sight somewhere that has never been changed.

The OEM pre filter used to be about $60.00 and the secondary $26.00.

Thats why I piffed the OEM setup after warranty expired and installed the Lucas-Delphi setup. I used to bulk buy the Delphi filter packs for $4.50ea for 10, and still have 20 sitting on the shelf which will last me out I reckon.

Also have a look on LCOOL Landcruiser Forum which will without doubt have a heap to say on this subject.

Gday
What you are looking for in the filter is to small to see with the naked eye.

So you checked the filter, did you put a new one on just to see if that was the issue or did you put the old one back on ?? ..............

Is there any chance you can disconnect the chip and see wether this has anything to do with it ?? I doubt it but at least it eliminates the chip .........
