Hi guys, We are venturing on a
camping trip up the north coast of queensland over the Christmas break. Having never been up that far i'm not sure whats good and what not, I booked a
camp site already just past Mackay for 3 days right on
the beach.
From there I was going to just wing it an ask the locals along the way about where to go.
Has anyone got some idea's of where to go. I only want to go as far as
Cairns.
Cheers Shane

Hi Shane. Good
camping and fishing at
Cardwell, Mission Bch and
Cairns.
Just keep your eye on the weather or may get stuck for a few days if it rains.

Check the weather outlooks as much as you can. Christmas day last year we got 280mm of rain in about 6 hours on the
Atherton Tableland, plus even more fell in
Innisfail. If it doesn't rain it could be pretty warm!

I suggest you plan a couple motel rooms. Its great seeing the tropical rain especially if you haven't seen it before. I'm one of those that want to go to
Darwin in the wet to experience it.

Good on you for giving it a go Shane.
99% of people would try to talk you out of coming up here at that time of year.
But if you haven't been up this way before & you are willing to cop a bit of rain you will find it AMAZING.
If it turns out to be an above average rainfall again this year nature will turn on another spectacular show for you.
We have had a bit of rain up here so far & it is, to quote the Cassowary Coast Council, "GREEN LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN".
If you get up into the Wet Tropics there are some lovely quiet
places to go if the roads are open.
Around
Ingham there is
Wallaman Falls, The Broadwater &
Jourama Falls.
Up around
Tully there is Murray Falls &
Tully Gorge. Both not far off the highway & on sealed roads.
Up around
Innisfail &
Babinda there is
Josephine Falls & Boulders.
Plus all the way along there are little beaches not far off the highway.
One of the prettiest is
Etty Bay just South of
Innisfail.
Etty Bay has a cassowary walk through the
camp ground & up
the beach now & then.
Mission beach is usually hard to beat, but since cyclone Yassi shade is a bit hard to find & it is going to be in demand as it heats up. After this wet season plenty of the shade should have come back.
There is heaps more than I have mentioned. One place I like down near Proserpine is
Dingo Beach. It's a quiet little corner & around Christmas should be devoid of tourists.
Happy travells

Thanks Fatso.. It's the only time we get to have off & I hate the cold so going as far south is out of the question. I've heard so many good things about the wet season tropics but also bad ones aswell. If worst comes to worst we'll get a motel, I've allowed for that in my emergency money. :)
I have heard in and around
Ingham is really nice. our goal is to get here atleast!
