Has any body had their winch off and overhauled it. If so what type of grease did you use to repack the gear box planetary gears. The one that I'm playing with is an old Thomas 8000 lb [Ramsey].

Aussie made "True Blue" marine grease. Most boating shops will have it. Comes in tins or tubes.

Murray,
I had an old Thomas winch which I only gave away recently. It used oil in the reduction g/box - but it was ~30 years old.

As said by others I use a moly loaded marine grease. The same as is used on Mercruiser legs.

cheers

Hi Bonz
Looks like a moly based grease is the go and a marine grade seems to be the go also.
OT sounds like you had a good weekend the other week.
