Hi All

I now have a new contact within Transport SA and I would now like to post the official ferry figures up until the 7th November 2011. As per my other posts, you will not find these figures in any other location, as my new contact Joanne informed me that I am the only private person to receive this information, with only other Government Department ever getting these details.

The below details are from the first day that the ferry was put back into operation on the 22nd June 2011. Due to Christmas Holidays and Departments closing down for annual leave, I will not be able to get the next updated figures until early January 2012.

Total number of 4WD ferried, 5139

Total number of cars ferried, 161

Total number of buses ferried, 404

Total number of motor bikes ferried, 212

Total number of Adults ferried, 14129

Total number of children ferried 1932

Total number of non vehicle people crossing 463

The 10,000th person crossed on 6 September 2011

Total North Crossings, 2948

Total South Crossings, 3058

Total empty crossings 2770

The largest number of vehicles ferried in 1 Day, 107

The above figure relates to the time of the Birdsville Races and were the same on two days, 31st August of 107 and again on the 1st September with again 107 vehicles.

It is still not too late to head up for a ride and to become part of history. Like I mentioned in my last post, the Cooper is dropping slower that expected and the ferry should be running into January 2012 at this stage.

To add further to this lifetime experience, I can also highly recommend a cruise with Peter Ware and a Helicopter flight with Paul. Both of this trips compliment each other and gives you another perspective of the extent of the flooding.

Until my nest ferry updates.

Cheers to All

Thanks Stephen,
I would be one of those stats, and I to would recommend those tours also especially the sunset cruise with Peter. Next time the Cooper floods I would like to take a tinny up the creek and see how far I can go. Cheers MickImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be Found

Hi Mick

I know a couple of guys that did just that, and as they told me I was green with envoy as they knew just how much I loved that area and my general interest in the flooded Cooper.

They went north from the ferry site for 4 days, with swags only, fuel, water and food in their tinny and have the trip of a lifetime. After 4 days of travel it looked like the Cooper was going to go on for ever and they had to turn around and head back down to the ferry site.

What a time they had and it would have been seeing the Cooper at it's very best.

If you do it and have a spare seat......................yes please.

Cheers

Hi Stephen,
Mate it is a serious plan and yes you would be welcome. I have at least one other person who at the drop of a hat he can go also. A bit of planning and it could be a wonderful trip. I will keep you posted. Cheers Mick

Certainly interesting figures Stephen. We were talking to friends tonight and it appears we may be headed up the Birdsville again next year for the races. Just a thought at this stage. LOL

Hi Deanna

That would be great and allow extra time to travel the track, as there is a lot to see along the way. Not unless there are some very heavy rainfall patches in Outback Queensland, then the ferry should be high and dry on its blocks next year.

Cheers

Hi Chris

Thanks for that. Like I mentioned on one of the forum posts a long time ago, this was going to be my pet project that once started, I was going to follow it through until it is again put back on its blocks.

Cheers
