Looking at the "Ice Bear" range to get a few quads and maybe a buggy for our next holidays but would like some feedback as to the quality, yes i do know they are not "top of the range" but the price is pretty bleedin good given we wont really use them that much ......
Would rather have the "Twister" range but costs more and short stocks at the moment, "good" brands like Yamaha are to pricey for us and what we need so it is down to the el cheapos for us, kids will lose interest quickly, that i know and accept ....
Cheers n thanks in advance

Hi Joe

Don;t know about that particular brand but I bought a cheap Chinese 125 dirt bike for use around the farm. Plastics a bit cheap and it started loosing a few bolts so I replaced all the common bolts with good quality and loctited them in.

Still going strong after 4 years. Have replaced the tyres and shockie but thats fair wear and tare. Would buy another one for farm use tomorrow.

Cheers Teza

Hi Tezza, we brought one of the cheap 49cc quads some years ago and it was awsome, first thing we did we check every nut n bolt and re-align everything up, that is there major failure that the chains ect are not assembled true and it wears the sprockets and chains and stuffs everything real quick ..... it went really well until the liddle fella went for a swim in the ocean at Maningrida, by the time we got it back and hosed it all out it was cactus but at about $500 bucks landed at Maningrida it was very cheap fun ...

not sure on the specific brand but we have a Crossfire quad bike, they come out of the same factory in china as the atomic bikes.

We work our bike a little harder than recreational users being farmers and have found that it needs to be in the workshop a lot of the time.

The plastics have had to have new bolts, the tail lights have fallen off, starter solenoid replaced, starter motor fixed, carry frame reattached, new drive shafts, gear shifter worked on, new battery, winch fixed twice ad all of this since the start of the year, it wouldn't have even done 3000km yet.

I'd check out clearing sales, i got a honda TRX 250 for $1600 recently and since the initial tidy up at the workshop it has been good. I even like my 250s more than my TRX420, some bikes are getting too much electronic guff on them these days.

Only thing that remains to be said is be very careful with them. Worksafe has us farmers in the gun about safety on these things but most deaths and injuries are by part time and recreational users.

I have a mid 80's Honda TRX250 quad that spends less time in the workshop, than my mates kids brand new chinese quad. I am moving soon and will be forced to sell the Honda, and I bet I will regret it if I ever have need for a quad again.

yes i know the "known" brands are heaps better, my biggest headach is i have to buy new or second hand though a dealer as i have to freight everything in and getting someone who is selling it private to pack it for transport is impossible, yep nobody is interested even chucking it on a pallet and tying it down with wire, that simple .......... and then of course the freight cost, from a dealer it is reasonable as they can get a deal, private it can cost $1500 from Brissy to here for a mid range quad.... yes the joys of living remote..
But of course when we finally do get it we have a million acres to drive around on so in that we are very lucky..
With the chinese units the parts are now becoming readily available, even on e-bay from australia and i can get 3 delivered here for the price of 2 "good brand" units not delivered, freight is still gunna be about $700 - $1000 landed here, no choice in that....
I am still hoping to find someone who has had one, i do know they have sold a lot of them so will wait n see eh
Cheers
Joe
