Reading an earlier thread about,"Old cars and trucks, how did we drive them ", makes me wonder about how dangerous and how legal was it back then towing huge caravans with the cars of the day, drum brakes on the tow and usually just over-ride brakes on the van which was often loaded to the hilt.
Up the Pacific Highway boiling on every
hill and blowing tyres or seizing wheel bearings that hadn't been roaded in twelve months, kids screaming, mum swearing never to come
camping again...oh what fun lol.

Racinrob,
I used to tow a Conquest ski boat with an in-board 350 Chevvy behind a mini moke. Needed two blokes sitting on the front of the moke to get some traction to pull it out at the ramp. Didn't even know what trailer brakes were and had never thought about rear vision mirrors.
Lucky, rather than smart I guess.

Perhaps we were a little more cautious in those day? Did not drive as fast? Knew the limitations of our units and ourselves?
Well may be just a little bit more careful but we did have our moments.

Hi Brian. I'm glad our cars were not as powerful as the modern day one. I think there would be a lot less of us oldies on this
forum now, myself included. Cheers,Bob
