Numerous threads on the forum re these issues Barry. There is an Engel service place on Canterbery Road, Heathmont just before Bayswater Road. It's on the southern side of the road and I'm pretty sure it's between Coven Avenue and Miller Road. Can't recall the name of it but it is an appliance service centre and pretty hard to miss. I took my 40 litre there a couple of years back for a similar issue.

It may be Eastern Homewares at 42 Canterbury Road, Heathmont - (03) 9720 3619

Cheers Mick

I'm assuming you mean an Engel fridge/freezer rather than an ARB. Have you checked the fuse inside the cigarette lighter plug itself? I blew one when I inadvertently (substitute stupidly) put the alligator clips on the battery back to front. Luckily Engel supply a spare with the fridge, they are also available at outlets that sell Engel accessories.

Hi Barry,
A friend of mine had a similar problem, he replace the compressor and still had the same problem. it turned out that the 12V cable had actually deteriorated and there was a large voltage drop caused by the cable, bought a new cable and problem solved. So if you can borrow another 12 volt cable and try it, may be worth a try.
Good luck
Regards
Ken

Hi Barry,

I solved a similar problem by gently bending the 12v contact prongs at the back of the fridge using a pair of needle nose pliers. Good contact was re-established.
May be worth a try.

Cheers, Graham.

I seem to recall that the fridge runs on 12V whatever your supply - so when you connect to 240V, the transformer inside converts the supply to DC and 12V - if so, then there is nothing wrong with the fridge, just the 12V connections - as suggested above, check the fridge cable from end to end..... it coud conceivably be the 12V connections inside the fridge cabinet too - or the 12V supply in your car, between the battery and the outlet that you use......fingers crossed - this could well be a very cheap fix :-o).
