Hiya,
I am interested in finding some great camping spots along the Murray River. I want them in the Murraylands around Mannum, Walkers Flat, Murray Bridge etc.
I want ideas for quick getaway weekends with a bit of sand, bit of shade and a place to drop a line in. I don't want to drive too far from Adelaide, so we dont want to go as far as the Riverland area. I used to go to Thiele Landing near Loxton when I was a kid, something like that, just closer, would be great. Can anyone recommend some places?

Cheers

bored,

You don't want much do ya? Need to go and visit the Tourist Information Centre in Adelaide.

But that aside...There is a nice camp spot at Narrung where Lake Albert and Lake Alexandrina meet. From Murray Bridge north to Morgan the main camping places are at the ferry crossings. There are other camp sites but they are on private land and you have to obtain permission. There is a private place near Morgan but I can't think of the name now and then between Morgan and Waikerie there is Hogwash Bend which has about 2km of camping spots, some in the shade and some with sand.

Best advice I can give is that you hunt them out for yourself.

Cheers,

Willem

Cordola is the place just south of Morgan. Get their number from the Morgan post office.....only a few dollars a day to camp, via an honesty box. Why I am here looking at this screen ?

Try Martin's Bend near Berri, bloody nice spot for family, watch out for speed boats in summer. Got water twin toilet block, no power.

Hi Russell,
Would you mind giving directions to Martin's Band please. It sounds excellent.

Thanks,
Dave

Try this link
http://www.traveldownunder.com.au/South_Australia/Riverlands/Martin_Bend_Reserve.asp> Martins Bend Link

I did the River Ramble in 2001 ? and drove the support vehicle and camped at every spot from Narrung to Renmark. Martins Bend stood out as a loverly spot, grass to the river, shady camping spots, good dirt roads, basic facilites.

Have fun.

Thanks Russell,

I bet that was a great trip. How many overnight camps did you have?

I tried the link. Unfortunately it didn't work. I will just have to go for a drive. No doubt someone at Berri will be able to provide directions.

Regards,
Dave

Use google.com to search for keywords "ski boat club berri south australia"

The 8th entry will lead you to the Berri Matin Bend Page.

How to get to Martin Bend Reserve:
Follow Sturt Highway to Berri, go down Vaughan Terrace to the riverfront which is Riverview Drive, turn left and follow the signs. Martin Bend Reserve is about two kilometres along on you left hand side.

The River Ramble was fun, 10 days of boating driving and booze with out the hanbrakes/navigators/boat anchors etc.

Have Fun
