Dear all members,

Just a quick heads up for anyone heading west on the Nullarbor Plain in the next two weeks.

The Willetton Senior High School Gifted and Talented Education programme is conducting the WA Sustainable Transport Experiment from today. A solar car, battery powered Moke (with solar panels on the trailer), solar bike, and two pedal powered bikes will be crossing the Nullarbor from the Nullarbor Roadhouse in South Australia, finishing past Norseman. The intention is to travel 1,000km using renewable energy with 15 high school students.

We will be departing this morning, and travelling at highway speeds. The solar portion of the trip should start on Wednesday, finishing on Friday 9 December.

Our convoy will be travelling at approximately 20-30 km/h for much of the trip - speed limited by cyclists. There will be support vehicles and the bus, so everyone should be visible.

Our convoy will be operating on UHF29, but also monitoring UHF18 and UHF40. My vehicle, Gracie, has an Exploroz sticker on the back of her.

Feel free to raise us on UHF to let us know you are wanting to pass, or just to have a chat! I'm sure the students would love to hear some encouragement.

I'll keep a blog of the trip for those interested, and look forward to seeing you on the road!

Charles

Top job guys, great to see the kids out doing something worth while. My brother inlaw is at Murrayville and has a lot to do with their HPV. It is a great way for the kids to learn practical stuff. What an expirience for the kids to see some amazing country in the name of science. Pass on our congrats to the kids and wish them well.

Thank you, Josh. We have a UHF radio mounted through the bus sound system for our own convoy chat (certainly not set to UHF40!) and I just read your post to them from our support vehicle as we passed through Norseman. Your comment was met with a large cheer, and a lot of smiling faces.

You have made the day of 18 students and five supervisors!

HI Charles,

I had the great pleasure to run into you mob along the road - witnessing the exhilaration of your team as you cheered the end of the climb up the huge hill out of - I think- Madura Roadhouse.

I have some images but cannot get them to insert in here.

Congratulations, it was a joy to see the engagement of your students and I was awed by their technical wizardry.

Well done
Sharna
