eva-cool fridge performance

hi all.
a test on 2 fridges on sunday night.at home in the spare room(dont you love it when kids leave)
(1)45 litre waeco 4 yrs old non digital just slide for cold-freeze without cover
(2)new 60 ltr eva-cool with domus compressor digital etc with cover
not sure if my test is good or bad but compared to my 45 litre waeco im happy.
i filled 2 x 1.25 litre bottles 3/4 full of water.and put 1 in each nothing else.
water straight from tap.
both fridges pluged into 240 adapters.
set waeco on freeze as far as slide would go
set eva-cool to -16 deg
time was 6.30 pm temp according to eva-cool readout 21.
checked both fridges around 9.30 both bottles cold .
eva-cool eva-cool readout said -12.
got up at 11.30 (kids at door)
eva-cool bottle frozen
waeco not all frozen but getting there.
7.30 monday morning both frozen so turn both fridges off.
after work monday 6.00 waeco bottle defrosted
eva-cool defrosting but 2/3 still iced
checked eva-cool today 7.30 still iced in middle and real cold water still.
wife wasnt working today so i asked her to check every hour to see when defrosted .today here was 23 overnight and around 30 before lunch.but we did have cooler on
eva-cool bottle nearly defrosted at 11.00 and fully defrosted at 12.00.
as i said im not sure if thats a good result or not
what do you think
cheers

Can I just confirm that you have the new 60L yellow Fridgemate version of the Evakool range and not the white fibreglass version?

I have had the 70L yellow Fridgemate for about 5 years now. It has done a lot of miles and still going strong.
A bit big for us now most of the kids have gone and I am looking to downsize a bit.

Sorry just looked at their new brochure.
I didn't realise they had a new range with the Domus Compressor.

Ignore question above.

It would at least even it up. If you put your hand between the fridge and cover,it is cooler than the outside of the cover so there is obviously some insulation going on.
Try the test with both covers off and both covers on.

A lot of people think having a cover is a sign of a bad product, but in reality ,a cover gives you a lot of insulation for very little weight and bulk.
I was walking around the 4wd and camping show last week and every fridge I saw had a cover.

Hi nowimnumberone

Sorry but all your tests shows is

[1] Fridge [E]with an extra insulation cover , freezes faster & deeper than [W} with no cover
[2]that may be due to fridge [E] using MORE power to get there plus the advantage of addditional insulation than [W]
Insulation is a big factor with any fridge& where most efficiency gains can be made

[3][E] having got to a lower temperature in the same time than [W] simply has more cold stored & with ADDITIONAL insulation should take longer to thaw

This is not entended to say [E] is not a more EFFICIENT than[W]
It may or may not be

But your tests did not in anyway show which is the MOST EFFICIENT

Hi nowimnumberone,

Great to hear you are happy with the performance of your Evakool fridge / freezer.

It sounds like the model you have is the 60 Litre portable unit from the new Evakool TravelMate range.

These units will also run down below -20ºC in the main section.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks.
