An update to my previous thread asking for facts re Mahindra. Took one for a test yesterday & today after talking to a couple of owners. No bad reports prior to test & all good after test. Have ordered one.
Base price $29K Twin Cab Cab Chassis
Air Front & Back, Cruise control, ABS, Rear diff locker, 2.2 Turbo Deisel, 5 speed manual, High & Low Range, Engage on the fly, 2.5 tonne towing & 300kg ball weight
Extras
Ally Tray, Steel Bull Bar & Side Rails (winch compatable),Tow bar,
Transfer of 2nd battery system, brake controller, rear camera, UHF,
All Up $36.5K drive away less trade
To Come
Snorkell & possibleDP Chip
Passed on the sumpguard ($450) Tradesman's Canopy TJM ($7300) Will have one fabricated in chequer plate when I get home.
The test was good. A top line Toyo or Nissan it isn't but then neither is the price. I'm over 6' & the
cook is 5'10 & there is plenty of leg & head room. Seats felt good (tests over 1hr long) Bit rough on the dirt but holds the road
well. Last red one in Aust. till next year sometime so if you see us give a wave.
Looked at a great wall but didn't come near in towing or features.Even salesman conceded it would not suit. Couple of troopies & Prados but $55K to $70K is too rich for me. This one should see me out. Bill

Good on yer, Bill..done your research & made your choice. I hope it performs
well.
Keep us posted as a real test is far better than all the "dont touch it" stuff from those
who have never touched one. cheers......oldbaz.

sangster, I am thinking that they are made in India. Jolly good!
Seriously, they are a quite substantial Indian company and also make farm tractors.
Bill, I read your first thread and am pleased to see that you have done your homework and acted on your conclusions. May you have many thousands of happy kilometres.

Yep, Made in India. Evidently a big diversified company. Have been manufacturing for the American military for years. Second try at the Aust market.( 1990's) I did look at one some time before that as a shooting & fishing buggy. Couldn't drive with my knees around my ears. Limited import at the time.
Will keep reporting on how things go. Test will be towing the van home at Xmas. Bill

Well done, will be real interested in following how you go with the Mahindra.
I like the extras that you are getting, as I have been pricing a Mahindra lately and all the extras appear to be at reasonable prices, not sure if it's a good idea to give up the Sump Guard, as I have heard that the Mahindra Pikup has a Alloy sump..
I think that the Red colour is the best looking colour and I have a picture of a Red one ;) from a car yard in SA
If I was buying one-- it would probably be a white one -- as white does not show scratches and is the easiest to repair but Red is defiantly better looking though.
Cheers
