We have 2000 Explorer that has started making a noise when put under load e.g going up a steep
hill or towing the van up a
hill. Noise and slight vibration can be felt on passenger side footwell. Normal driving all is quiet. Thought it was transmission but was checked all OK.Anyone had this problem or have any suggestions.

You haven't described the noise but as there appears to be a localised vibration as
well it could be worth checking your engine and transmission mounts as they can give those symptoms that only appear under load. Also worth checking driveshaft joints for same reason.
Perhaps a description of the noise?

Yes and the exhaust system is also a prime suspect for rattles and vibration noise under load

Google Ford Explorer problems re: vibrations and you will find lots on info.
Most of it is on a few USA forums, but it will give you plenty of reading.
Cheers

G'day Brian sorry to wreck your day , but stop driving explorer immediately and get it checked out , they have a bad habit of breaking timing chains and therefore wrecking the engine , so get someone to diagnose asap.
