This book is not easy to review as it is more than the story of railway construction; it is the story of Australian public and political opinion at the time. It is a story of success and failure, hardship and joy, recession and succession. Basil Fuller is an excellent "wordsmith" who draws you into the building of the Ghan; it is not dry history, but a living story.
