G'day,
Can't give specifics to that engine as I have not owned one but if it's been
well looked after I would not hesitate.
Engine life is more governed by the attention to servicing & the way it's driven than the milage it's done. In particular the lubrication & cooling systems. I sold my last Hilux with 300,000 on the clock & the engine was still perfect but my BIL was on his 3rd engine in the exact same model & milage vehicle!
Maybe someone that knows of any specific issues with that engine can chime in & give you some further advice.
Cheers
Stu

Hi Toohey,
You are the only one here on the
forum knowing the full service history of your vehicle, in 'normal' mode these diesel motors are very reliable giving little trouble.
The fitting of a chip will improve performance yes BUT your fuel consumption will more than liklely increase.
Can I suggest you consider fitting a three inch hi flow exhaust which will give you increased performance & TORQUE.....then if you want more get up & go consider the chip then.
just my two bobs worth

Hi , i have a 79 series turbo( same motor) its done 120,000kms and i just did my tappets and general service . The camshaft and rocker gear are still like new and clean like i have never seen a diesel motor before (diesel mechanic) and it burns a half litre of oil per 10,000 kms , there a dam good piece of gear. I also have it chiped and three in exhaust and would not hesitate putting them on a cruiser with 260k on the clock . The only thing to be worrying about is your clutch and drive train ,they are the things that will cop the flogging. One other point don't put over sized tyres on it that will put more stress on the drive train, stick to standard size. And yes the fuel burn is slightly more, but power increase is at leased 35%.

toohey,
I've had a D'tronic since 70,000KM and now on 230,000KM.
The 4WD
shop I use has fitted Steinbauer's to a few 100 Series but don't know how they go.
Might be worth enquiring on the LCOOl website.
FWIW these are the fuel consumption stats for my vehicle over time:
1. Standard.
2. 285X75X16 Mud tyres. (calcs normalised due to speedo error)
3. 3" mandrel bent exhaust.
4. D'tronic chip.
5. Towing 750kg hard top camper.
