Mt dissapointment 7/12/03

We mad our way in from Broadford about 11 am along Clonbinane rd and aired down just below Sunday Creek Res then made our way around Sunday creek res and up a steep track veering of the right up a steep track known as Hills Rd (we think may be unmarked ) good hill climb with three steep sections in 1st and second gear low range in different sections , the scenery is beautiful here and all the tracks that had some difficulty would be very interesting in wet conditions (read next to impossible)without extreme tyres and gear.
We then made it up to Mountain rd past plantation on the right then next right onto engine camp rd , not challenging but once more very scenic with some wildflowers still to be seen in bloom a short detour past some downed large trees posed some distressing moments till we found a way around, then came upon Main Range rd then a little play in a boghole crk crossing and a few short section detours along main range rd , seeing a wallaby at one point.
Then we took a left to see the hard to access top of mt dissapointment
Dodging a few motorbikes and boulders to get back on main rd then lunch at Blairs hut picnic area where the local constabulary were lunching with parks rangers checking bikes and a few 4wd cars.
Not a bad overnight stop area if you wanted to stay.
Then down phone track with a hilly downhill section off sugarloaf hill area near D Falls , There was some hard tracks in this area that again would be difficult to negotiate in the wet.
We ere close to the end of phone track and made an error in navigation (read bad map reading and direction )so a dead end trip on holt rd then back up phone track to see a hyundai excel coming down a rocky washed out track (lol) we then took a left intolower section of phospate trk making our way eventually up to hilliers rd through some remarkable bush , even seeing some feral looking campers in a few 2wd cars at the section between hilliers link phosphate and hilliers tk ,looking like a tollway for grog supplies if you went through there site??????
Conical hill area was found by accident but we didnt attemp any hill decents or climbs here today.
Back up Hilliers ontoLords rd then left onto cockpit rd and around the edge of the park with a few houses on the boundary of the park, the track was fairly easy here but quite scenic with good views to the right of hills nearby, .
Shortly after this we went up mill range rd past the back of Nahoa’s spare and a nearby campsite back onto main range rd and near Hollowbank storage reservoir onto some sections of pipeline tk that e blocked of with concrete blocks to obviously stop further track damage, (but blocks looked uglier than a sign>?).
So back to Raynors rd up to the top of the ladder to negotiate the very washed out rutted track down in first gear low in most sections down to lower sections then being mooned by local wildlife before heading back up drag hill rd past Andersons gardens picnic area then airing back up for the trip home (via the greasy shop for tea and the bottle O for passengers ).
Long day for a few kms travelled but we all had a great day.

Thanks for the report. I might email this to David and earn some member money for the trek! Just needs some pics and also the track thingy from oziexplorer and it would be just like Michelle's trip reports (except for the pics).
Glad that you all had a good time.

Gooday Toonie,

I am sure that had I been there, one lost jewel would have had to be rescued somewhere. Glad you had a great day, and I hope you can make the next trip, although that may be hard without a 4wd....still room somewhere I am sure.

Just Do It!
