Camper Trailers To The Cape?

Hi All

We are in the process of planning a trip to the Cape during 2012, and have an Australian Offroad Camper Trailer Quantum. The trailer weights about 2200kg when fully loaded, and although they are built pretty tough - I'm a little concerned by conflicting stories about whether we should take it - or not.

Width for the trailer is about the same as the tow vehicle - so this would not be a problem, plus we are travelling with a few other vehicles. If anyone has any recent info or advice about taking trailers to the Tip - would be appreciated!

Cheers

Chris

You will have absolutely no problem taking the camper to the cape on the main road, as it is a wide dirt road, good in parts and very corrugated in other parts.

If you wanted to try the OTL however you better have a very big winch towing 2200Kgs. I wouldn't try it although I did most of the Northern OTL towing my 700Kg Camp'o'matic, but had to be winched up Cannibal Creek south as Nolan's Brook was too deep for me.

The track in to Eliot/Twin falls is part of the Northern Telegraph track but should present no problem to you. It is only about 7Km from the main road.
There is one creek crossing which has easy entry and exit and is usually relatively shallow at about 60CM. It is very heavily corrugated.
Make every effort to get there as it was the highlight of our trip.

U shouldn't have a problem with an AOR trailer on the Pennsula Deveopment Road We did the trip last year and at the same time there was a family doing the run in a Kia Carnivale. They came north from cairns and we were at the end of the dry Sept/Oct

You shouldn't have a problem.
