G'day GD,

How about 2 months!
That's how long it took us. Having said that we did work on one of the stations for a month.

I guess 2 weeks would be ok for most people but we like doing long walks, sometimes overnight so it all depends on your style of travel.

Just don't rush it & it will be better for your vehicle & your stress levels.

Cheers
Stu

G'day GD,

Minimum two weeks, a month would be better.

We did it in under two weeks because we were travelling with friends who had a schedule, and it definitely was not long enough.

Cheers

Agree with above, we did the GRR in 06 with friends who had a schedule, should have let them go ahead as you could spend four weeks no trouble at all.
Enjoy the trip, it's a great area, we hope to return.
Cheers

2 weeks is OK but plan your trip out. Cover off the MUST do's along with the LIKE to do's and you may find your self staying longer at the MUST do's and cutting out some of the LIKE to do's...if you get the drift.

Are you towing a CT? or tenting?

One recommendation I make is to stay a little longer at Elquestro. Most places are a 2 night stay, one day explore...I would factor in 3 nights or more at Elquestro if possible. Top spot and there's a few attractions that you don't want to miss.

We did it in a 3 week trip. It was comfortable but we misses a few things. A longer trip would have been a little more relaxing.

One thing we found ourselves doing was throwing the plan out the window...so to speak. If we felt we needed a break we stayed longer...missed a few things like I said but that's our excuse to do it all over again some time...

Hi Greendog; we took three and a half weeks just seeing the main stuff. That included three days at Kalumburu. We were not pushing it, and sometimes if the road was bad, 100 kilometres was a good day's work. You've probably already seen my blogs. I wouldn't like to do in in under three weeks.

In 2006 we did it in just over 4 weeks. That was starting at El Questro and finishing up at Windjana Gorge. We spent a few days at each major gorge for walks and a rest day, taking in Mitchell Plateau and Kalumburu. You need to take you time in this beautiful part of Oz.
Enjoy your trip.

We did it in July this year and went from Derby to Kununurra and took 4 weeks, just over 3,000 k’s. (That was after we had already done Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek a week prior to starting the GRR.) The only places we missed were Mount Elizabeth Station, Birdwood Downs and Digger’s Rest. Although the road to Mitchell Falls and Kalumburu was the worst we have been on, they were worth it, but you could leave out Kalumburu. It is not much help to you but we loved it all, so it is hard to say what not to see. Some of the gorges we heard negative comments about we loved. We could definitely have taken longer and could easily do it all again. The Kimberley region is just a truly magic place. (You may hear the odd complaint about El Questro, but we loved it.) Kevin

If you travel all that way, why rush it I say?

I say 3 weeks minimum. We spent over a month and even things were still closed that we couldn't get to.

Already planning our trip up there for next year and we haven't even arrived home from the last one!
