I am going to get my Hubby a set of tyre deflators for Christmas, but am unsure of the brand to buy and is there anything special I need to ask for as I am often treated with disdain by the people behind the counter or salesman as I am female. So if you can help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks for all the help guys

Barbara,
Just cruise into your local 4WD
shop and ask for a set of Stauns.
Top quality deflators, hubby wiil be happy and the 4WD guy will know that you know what you are talking about.
Regards
Barry H

Barbara,
You might consider an ARB deflator in place of the Stauns, I have both.
The Stauns are preset and not easily adjustable, where as the ARB deflator can be used to deflate to any pressure. Both about the same price.
A couple of vids to help you decide.
My preference would be the ARB unit.

I too have both but no longer use the Stauns. The ARB tyre deflator (also sold under several other brand names) is faster particually for large tyres & far more flexable when you want to change pressures to something other than what the Staun is preset at.

Barabara,
Agree. My Stauns have sat unused in the glovebox for years.

Hi
Depends a bit what the Hubby will be using them for.
The Stauns are great for dropping your pressure before driving on
the beach. They are pre-set at 18 PSI from the factory and can adjusted.
They come in a pack of 4 and I believe some people have 2 adjusted for sand and the other 2 adjusted for gravel or whatever. I have left
mine at 18 PSI and they take no time at all to drop the pressure before going on
the beach.
For adjusting pressures for driving on gravel etc with car and trailer/van the ARB deflator with the gauge would perhaps be a better option as you can drop the pressure down to whatever you think is right at the time.
There are other products around but I have only used the above.

i have Stauns and have just replaced them with the ARB E-Z Deflator.
the Stauns are good but IMHO the E-Z tyre deflator allows for better changability of different tyre pressures. i've had my Stauns stick a few times and not stop at the set pressure also, so having a compressor handy also helps.

I had the same problem with Stauns sticking and dropping the pressure to low.
I also changed to the ARB E-Z Deflater as you can drop tyre pressures to any thing that suits the situation.
Cheers Dave.

Had the same issue also - had a look at mates ARB deflator and it worked but is fiddly with removing the valve, wouldn't like to trust it in adverse conditions.
We deflate tyres about once a week and need no stuffing around so these days we use the 3 way air pressure guages with inbulit deflator.
2 of these have proved to be faster and much more precise.
The quick acton of rotating the stem means you can check current pressure easily , by the time you have attached the second one the first is almost ready to remove so nett effect is a faster more accurate system for 4 tyres.

I too have both the Strauns and ARB.
I always use the ARB. I can drop to what every pressure suits and it is quicker than the Strauns.
Both good solid products one is more versatile.
cheers

These are a good tool but are out of date with what is now available. Why count then try to get it the same 3 more times. You can now get a Guage fitted to the tyre deflator!
