In the last few months quite a few reviews have popped up on this Forum, reviewing products etc which were more than likely bought from this site. After a couple of days they scroll off the front page and into oblivion.
Would it be better for the review to be attached to the product (or whatever is being reviewed). It may of more help and relevance if reviews are stored with whatever they are reviewing, rather than doing thread searches through archives on the Forum to find someones opinion about something.
Just my thoughts. Cheers, Kanga.

K1, This is already the case, products that are sold thru the shop have the reviews along side them when you click on the product.

It seems to be only recently that they have appearing on the forum, maybe it is a marketing ploy?

Thanks guys, I didn't realise the review comments were already stored next to the relevant product. Marketing may be the reason, Cheers, Kanga.

Hi Kanga,

As per the replies above, the reviews certainly are shown on the item pages as well as in the forum. We have recently implemented a new Review, Question or Comment feedback system shown in several sections of the site (including shop) and whenever one of these entries are made they are duplicated in the Forum.

This enables replies to be made in the forum to the Review/Question/Comment.

We are currently seeing a high level of shop reviews (as opposed to other types of entries) as we are currrently encouraging shop customers to review the products they have purchased. By leaving reviews they go in the draw to win a shop voucher (drawn monthly).

I hope this info clears things up for you guys as to what's going on, also these types of posts are easy to spot as the title of the post will always start with-

Review:
Question:
Comment:

Followed by the name of the product/article/trek note where the entry was originally published.

Hi Adele, The newsletter actually says .... "We want your feedback!"
"WE", that is the ExplorOz management, not the whole darned Forum readers!
Doesn't this come under "The Advertising/Self-Promotion Rule" and subject to moderation?

Allan, I think you've forgotten who owns the site and how it is funded.

Hi Alan
Got a touch of the grumps today!

Each of these posts start off with the word Review, if you don't want to open them don't.
There are others that may be interested in a particular topic and the heading draws their attention.

cheers

Hi Phill, ..... Grumps? Maybe, it's raining here today!
You are right of course, I don't have to open them. But I am becoming intolerant of the increasing volume of commercial promotion confronting me everywhere.

No David, I had not forgotten who owns the site and how it is funded. As a paying Member I am quite aware of the various income streams. And as a paying Member I elected to voice an opinion about the service that I am contributing to. I am perhaps being mistaken that you would be interested in the opinions of a customer paying for the service that you sell.

This subject may be better discussed in the Members Newsletter, but it seems to have disappeared from my incoming email.

Cheers

Hmmm, 'Perhaps you have forgotten who owns the site'

Sounds like a "Big Brother" reply to me.

I, like Allan, would prefer not to see this extra advertising on the forum; as mentioned, the comments are on the same page as the item in the shop ... surely that is enough.

Yes, the site requires numerous methods of funding, I know how expensive running a business is, but if you get your regular customers 'peeved', maybe one income stream will decline.

It is a bit like the so called "polls", they are just for marketing in my eyes, and mean nothing. Do you remember a thread I started a couple of years ago regarding auto spell check? A poll was held on that, and 75 or 80% of respondents agreed with it, but what happened? Bugger all. It is more important to the owners of this site to know whether you want a round or rectangular Exploroz sticker, apparently!

BTW, I came online to have a look at an article in the shop, I know what it is, how good it is, just need a price, or I can go to TJM and pick it off the shelf, no delay with postage. I don't need 'Joe Bloggs' to tell me he liked it.

Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave

You're entitled to your point of view however don't forget not everyone knows what they want to the detail so they can go to TJM.

Look at a few recent posts. What tyres should I get, what camera etc. Its these people that need help and would possibly derive benefit from the reviews.

Please try and look at it from a holistic point of view and not just yours. As I said in a earlier post don't open them if they aren't of interest to you.

cheers

Hi Phil B

You are right, of course .... all I came on line for was a price on Camps 6, (Xmas present for my brother), something pretty common. I personally bought Camps 5 from the shop here, waited a week for it, then saw it on the shelf at TJM for the same book price (no postage required).

No, not everyone knows everything, and I would be the first to admit that: I have gained a huge insight to 4wding in general, 12 volt stuff that baffles me, and much, much more, from this site.

I just feel that reviews from the shop are unnecessary on the forum .... the shop is the shop, the reviews are already there, and I see no reason to reproduce them. I often browse the shop, and read any comments left by previous purchasers.

I'm fairly sure there are articles on tyres here, if not, a search would bring them up (does the shop sell tyres?), and cameras, well, I would go to a camera shop or online specialist forum for info on that (Cnet or someone like that).

I am a member of another forum (nothing to do with 4wd or camping), which has a section called 'The Lounge', where any topic (except politics or religion) can be disussed, a great feature. I think this would be a great addition to this already wonderful site, but for goodness sake, don't have a poll on it, someone might agree with me.

Cheers, Dave

P.S. I have joined the majority, and no longer spell check.

Unlike other Forums, we have more than just 1 section of our website for people to ask questions and post comments etc. Reviews of Shop Products are just another interactive feature of the site where our audience is making a contribution to the site content. The same happens when people post feedback into a Trek Note, or Article page. We see the Forum as the place for you to easily see those contributions.

You may even be surprised about the types of products that we have available and be interested in what people have to say about them. This way, you can see them passively, without having to consciously go looking through the shop.

And of course, we certainly have no hesitation in using our Forum to promote further sales, which is the ideal outcome of audience response to Reviews.

Regards,
Michelle

Thanks for clearing this up EO, I'm sure viewers who get enough advertising already, will adjust their sets accordingly. Conversely applies also. Kanga.
