I recently put my caravan on consignment with a well renowned yard in the Penrith NSW area. It didn't sell and when I got it back the TRAIL-A-MATE was missing. The yard said as they didn't see it in the van when I first took it to them that it is not their responsibility. Shouldn't they have done an inventory of the contents of the van before they took it on consignment? Has anyone else come across this situation. Thanks :)

Sounds very disapointing. There's a number of people that could have taken it. However they have no obligation to do an inventory and as it turns out it is not in their favour to do one. I think an inventory should have been done together with photos but I think that unfortunately it should have been done by you.

hi dian t
sorry to hear of your loss but i agree with rob
you should have done your own inventry and handed a copy to the seller and kept video of the van and any loose items
considering the fact that the trailer -a-mate is not a cheap item and can easily be carried away you took a big risk leaving it unsecured
people quiet often walk through several vans before a sales member even see's them onsite
its a hard lesson that no one can be trusted and its easy to loose faith in the human race these days
but we all need to do the hard yards and take care of our own property
cheers barry

Having never done anything like this before I incorrectly assumed that the experts would guide me. I am now wiser and unfortunately poorer through my experience:) I won't get caught again and I hope this is a warning to others. Thanks for your comments.

Dian

I don't know what a Trail-a-Mate is...but if they're expensive I would report it stolen to the Police and make an insurance claim....if your insurance fits the situation???.

You never know, this may not have been the 1st time stuff has gone missing from this company under similar circumstances. (not that I am saying it has in any way) just if these things go unreported, no pattern can be formed.

Just a though.

Unfortunately it is my word against theirs so the police are unable to assist. I should have taken photos and asked them to sign an inventory as previously suggested. Ya live and learn. :)

Sure, but that is no reason not to report it as stolen, if it is, and claiming on insurance....
