Ive heard conflicting reports about what can come onto the Island from campervans to 26ft caravans, or is there no limit, if you think you can tow it through the sand then go for it. Cheers in advance.

Hi Quincy,
I've been to Fraser Island numerous times and I am yet to locate a Big 4 Caravan
Park.
Maybe you could enlighten me.

Hi Kev
The facility at Cathedral Beach has been owned and operated by the Big 4 group for a number of years.
They do a much better job (IMHO) than the previous owner/managers.

I don't know about any limits and visit the Island at least twice a year. We take our camper and I have seen some big vans but it can get tricky on the soft stuff.

The Gall Boys have a great DVD of them taking their van to Fraser, 'Makin' the Most of the Fraser Coast'. Have a look at their web site.

Ah, yes. The "tread lightly" Gall boys. What a great example we set... NOT!

Sir, I do not think this is a good idea:
1, Getting on and off the ferry with
the overhang at the back of a 26ft van will catch the ferry ramp.
2, Empty weight must be 3100kg (ATM) for a 26ft van then +
camping gear +
water.
3, The van has to be a road van as there is not a 26ft Off road so you have road tyres and high ground pressure. (even if you let them down)
4, If it bogs you need landcruiser (maybe) or F250 / Chev to get it out again
5, If you are on
the beach, it bogs and the tide comes in it might stay there forever.
6, You will have to get around winding sand tracks and
water crossings
7, There will be other vehicles coming the other way that need to get past.

There are no restrictions to towing caravans or boats to Fraser Island although it is not encouraged. Took my 20 foot van over there about 6 weeks back with no problems so long as you stay on
the beach, and be close to low tide. Plenty of beach
camping sites with easy access. The only way with any such trailer is from
Rainbow Beach/
Inskip Point and then around
Hook Point. Ferry fare for the car and van is double that of the car only ($160.00 return). You may scrape the rear of the van as you leave the ferry, depending on how
the beach is eroded and your angle of departure. Let ALL tyres down to around 18 to 20 PSI and you should have no problems.
Have a good holiday
