I purchased a new 4.2TDI cab chassis about 3 months ago and occasionally the motor keeps running for a few seconds after I turn off the ignition. When it had its 5,000km service last week by local Nissan dealer, they said they couldn't find anything wrong and basically shrugged me off.
Can anyone give me any ideas what would cause it and how to fix.
Cheers

Young,
I also have a TD42 which does exactly the same thing. It is about 12 months old.
I have asked about this with a mechanic friend and he tells me it is a characteristic of the motor. As long as that's the only problem I have I can live with that!
Regards,
Albert.

Thanks Albert, it's good to hear you haven't had any problems.
In the short time I've had
mine, the only other issues I've had, have been a clunking sound from the drive line changing up from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th (Nissan said that is normal) and the Bridgestone Dueler 693 tyres (Japanese) are wearing out very quickly - nothing unusual there!

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge but Nissan recognises a couple of faults with the 4.2td and is not recalling but waiting for complaints which they then rectify. Goes for starting problems so may also be for this. Don't let any dealer say it is just the motor - that is bullsh.t - they know of the faults and have access to the parts. rgds

Dont take being shrugged off by dealers.. Tell them your not happy with your $60k investment and demand it be fixed..
Its up to them to sort it out, a phone call to NIssan Headoffice might be in order...
Worst thing that ever happened was Renault buying Nissan... bleep in French.

The only thing it might be is the fuel shut off solenoid in the injection pump, which might be a bit sticky which would take a bit to shut the fuel off.

G'Day All
I have one of those as
well. It does exactly the same thing. I mentioned it to Ni$$an when I took it in for a service and they said exactly the same thing, we can't fing anything wrong.
I did a bit of an experiment with my one. Once when it didn't switch off I put it back in gear and managed to drive off. Got about three hundred metres down the road from my place before it got around to stopping.
It's the fuel shut off soleniod not closing or sticking in some way. Must be all of $10.00 bucks worth. You would think they would just replace it.
cheers
Foss
