Hello, We are to travel to
Norseman. Has anyone a condition report on the road
Lake King -
Norseman and/or the
Hyden -
Norseman roads ? We are travelling to Wamuran Qld to pick up our Coota Camper trailer and have Christmas with some of the family. Wish you all a happy holiday season.

Hi John
Check it out with Main Roads on 1800013314 or the relevant Shires, as the thunderstorms that went through dumped some quite heavy falls through the wheatbelt and may have gone further inland. We have been through both ways in wet weather with no problems, but they do tend to close them to save the road getting cut up if it gets too wet.

WA Road Closures
Kondinin to
Hyden is closed due to flooding.
Hyden had 112 mms so i don't like your chances that way
Lake King has had 65 mm rain so that way is a bit iffy too
In 2006 when we were heading for our Spirit of Tasmania booking, cyclonic blocked of our exits so we had to go via Jerramungup and
Esperance - only to find that the Fitzgerald River Bridge had been washed out! Luckily repaired and opened just the day before we went through.

John
We have just last month traveled them both.
Lake King Noresman road is in good nick in the kondinin and
Ravensthorpe shire but when you reach the
Esperance shire you will know why you brought a 4WD for 1/2 the road gone in one place (i but the red cone back in place to try and save people) but passable just take it easy.
by the way we went down to
Peak Charles then head south so can not tell you about the rest of the track, but I would expect it to be good as it is access to
Peak Charles NP.
The
Hyden Norsemen road is in the best condition I have ever seen it, they could paint it black right now and it would be the best road in WA.
We where towing our camper trailer on problems
Have a good trip..
Cheers

The
Hyden Norseman is usually a very
well maintained road and the
Lake King way passable (even if a bit slow dodging the inevitable potholes in the National
Park section), but worth John checking for closures after the recent rain rather than find he has to go the long way round.

Hello to all,
Thanks for the replies as you have helped me a lot with phone numbers and condition reports, although they will need to be updated before we leave about next Friday.
Yes, the red cone was a valuable guide to the hole in the road. We saw it there on our previous travels. No doubt the wash out will be much bigger by now.
The
Hyden road will be the way to go if it is not closed although a bit longer on the dirt.
Is the 1800 number a national number as we will be needing to check for road closures in NSW and Qld on our way to Wamuran? Seems just like it was about 12 months ago !

Hi there,
We came through from
Nannup to
Hyden last wednesday when all the flooding was happening, the raod was okay - needed a bit of cleanup from the
debris and dirt washed onto the road but i imagine this would of been done by now. The
Hyden to
Norseman section is always really
well maintained - HOWEVER - i have been caught a few times now where they close the road for road works. There is usually nothing wrong with the road, they just have the grader on it somewhere. But that road is really
well maintained (better than most highways). Not too sure if it suffered any damage during last weeks flooding however as we turned north to yellowdine at
hyden.
Good luck.
Lake King to
norseman road may be an alternative if you get stuck - might be a bit of a detour to get to
lake king but.
