A pretty thin DVD. Probably not worth the money. Certainly not a great deal of use if planning a trip across the Simpson

Sounds about right for a paid infomercial!

Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

Yep. It's one giant ad for who-ever is funding Mr 4x4's latest adventure. Great for the armchair outback traveller who has little or no exposure and gets to enjoy the Simpson from the comfort of the loungeroom.

There's been quite a few previous posts on "Mr 4x4's" television series and DVD's, mostly expressing disappointment at the content and the blatant infomercial style of the program. You have to remember that he is a journo and this is how he makes his living. Everything he drives, tows or uses is provided under commercial contract and the advertising that is implicit with such partnerships drives the content of the show. In a sense you could say that he is actually providing a service much like this site in that he is providing information to the public and it is targeted to an audience, namely the less experienced outback traveller. For example, my step dad loves it....but then he drives a Disco and his idea of serious 4x4 driving is engaging the diff locks to get her up on the bark garden so mum can wash it for him. The show does give him opportunity to view products related to the 4x4 industry that he wouldn't ordinarily be exposed to and on the rare occasion, he gets some brief glimpses of the great Australian outback (between the info spots for ARB products and the Nissan). Personally I would rather watch repeats of Neighbours than Pats efforts which is akin to having your eyes put out with red hot knitting needles. It keeps Pat and his kids in big hats and custom drizabones though.
My 2 cents worth only.
Mick

I used to look forward to the Pat /Roothie DVD way back but now my machine only plays Roothies adventures. The guys are a bit like emery tape. One is 100 grit (smooth) the other around 40 grit, a bit rough but sure gets the job done. He attracts great practical 4x4ers like the coffee machine a
Canberra attract public servants. Had a look at Pat's mag in the
shop on Saturday. Ok for a doctors waiting room but too polished for most of us. Sadly for the publishers, I always buy the 4X4 Australia mags for Roothies DVD and the adverts to keep up to date on equipment.

Oh cmon,
Don't be such a bunch of whingers.
It may be full of adds but watching an outback travel video is far better than watching a bunch of grown men chasing a ball.
