G'day Stan, I can highly recommend the Alpine Country motel in Cooma, very friendly couple there. they have room service or you can use the dining room. We use them every easter. A bit out of town, but very quiet.

Do they have caravan sites?

Have stayed at the Cooma Snowy Mtns park on the edge of town and found it quite good.

Update - that is the name given for Snowtels CP in Garry Strattons - MyParkList. If you are using that to find caravan parks, each park that has a Badgers report has a link on its page to that Badgers report.

Hi Stan, it is good because they are all first hand travellers reports. I always contribute reports of any CPs we stay at, even if reported on before by others. Different people want different things, so reading the reports helps us pick a park that suits us when we need one. It gives an idea of costs too. Reports are kept current (within four years) with older ones no longer being shown. Of course being dependent on contributions, often parks are not represented - this is up to all of us to remedy. A very helpful website.

When you have submitted a few reports you are given a password to download the site to your laptop. You can then use the site on the road without establishing a web connection.

I had a look at Badgers caravan park list only to find we are not on it. It has a lot of info though and I would like to be on it. I thought to remedy that by putting a review of Kilcowera Station in there myself, but that's naughty - as the owner I can't do it . So if any forumites who have stayed at Kilcowera would like to put in a review for us I would be most appreciative :) I hope anyway! Cheers zenonie

Hi Sangster, your rig would be fine on our road ( The Dowling Track ) as always just drive to the conditions, slow down and appreciate the drive! Of course if it rains the road gets closed as it is mainly a red dirt road. Come and see us some time, maybe you could write the review. But above all don't be frightened of getting onto the odd dirt road, they're usually pretty good. And Toowoomba is a lovely city, we go there often for shopping and ages ago our kids went to boarding school there. Cheers zenonie

Stan, most of the time there is a good gravel road from Eulo to Hungerford and back up to Thargomindah. I '08 I towed my Spaceland pop-top around that triangle. The only time I engaged 4WD was when I struck some soft wet conditions in Currawinya NP.

We camped at Kilcowera and did the trails there. At the time any sedan with high clearance would have negotiated the tracks with care. Your X-trail would be fine there, except during conditions where 4WDs should not be there to protect the tracks.

To make a trip of it, start at Cunnamulla, go round the loop to Hungerford, from Thargomindah continue west and go around the big loop to Charleville. All the roads are sealed apart from the Hungerford deviation. Don't forget the good camp spot on the Wilson R opposite Noccundra pub.

Also check this one out.

http://www.caravanparkphotos.com.au/index.htm

Click on "view a full list of parks" then go to the various towns mentioned.

Not sure which is the Port Stephens CP you are thinking of. We stay regularly at Shoal Bay CP and can recommend this, although it is starting to get a bit pricey at $40p/n off season.

you're not wrong there - try going when the water is warm enough with a couple of teens - not much change out of $100

Is the south side of Port Stephens important? I think you may get better value on the north shore. See this map, the pins are click-able for more info:

yep - N side is certainly cheaper with two parks there (Hawks Nest and Jimmy's Beach now open after renovations - check first though) great places. TBH, our kids like the S side of the harbour where it is more commercialised but you've got a fab surf beach and a fab still water beach at Hawks and Jimmy's. Can't go wrong.

Stayed at Snowtels in July this year. In a small cabin. The staff were friendly however it's just a park. Suitable really only for a night. There ain't much happening there.

As others have noted Badgers and the Caravan Park Photos are both good sources of reference.

Cheers.

Hi Carlsp, will be checking the Bateman Bay CP's, looking Big4 , from what I have seen they seemed to be a bit pricey but will look around the area unless someone comes up with a bit of info..

A group of us stayed at Garden of Eden CP in February this year while trialing our obedience dogs at Wolumla. Despite it being off peak the park was full because the Geist club had a gathering. The facilities are excellent and things like barbeques, washing machines and dryers were still available. I recommend this park and would be staying again next year except that the obedience trials are all at Bermagui so we will be staying longer at Wallaga Lake CP.

A tip: If you like seafood, go to the wharf and buy mussels direct from the boat. They are excellent steamed with some white wine and garlic. Now my taste buds are stiring, might have to make a day trip from Wallaga Lake to Eden just for the mussels.
