I have a set of Rhino bars coming to suit the hilux. (aero style) Now the awning. Has anyone any opinions on the rhino awning or any other suggestions to suit these bars?

Cheers

We have an ARB awning on our patrol and has been there for about 2 years. No sign of falling apart and is quick to put up. Picked ours up for $300m at the 4wd show in brisy. I see supercheap have them on sale for $199 at the moment.

Just make sure you fit enough heavy duty brackets as these things weigh about 20+ kilos We have 4 x heavy duty bars (rhinorack) and I mounted the awning with 4 rhinorack foxwing brackets, yes it may be overkill but the chances of it falling off are practically zero.

I see rhinorack have the angle brackets for aero bars so you can mount the awning to, but you can probably make your own.

Hope this helps

I am a long way from Supercheap. Are these awnings any good? Has someone checked them out? Any info would be appreciated. I am not going for the el cheapo but at $199.00 this could do my job.

Cheers

Greg,

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner, we were having some family time playing yahtzee.....

Mate no I haven't checked them out as such, but can only assume that because they will jump in price to $299 after the sale then it is probably safe to assume they would be made in the same factory in china as the rest of them that are around the same price. I know the ironman ones are ok as a mate has one and it has stood up to some crappy weather conditions (I know as we were on the same trip together).
If you want I can ring our local supercheap store here (maryborough Qld) and see if they have any and if they do I can go have a look and check the quality.

Hi Greg,

Yeah mate another one!!!

No worries. Good luck with the purchase. The awnings certainly make life a little easier when camping thats for sure. We have a mossie net for ours and used it when going across the plenty highway and great central road in 2010. Worked an absolute treat, and doesn't take long to put up or pull down either. The mossie net packs up about the size of a medium sized sleeping bag. I also installed an extra sail track to the end of the outstretched awning alloy support (??), purchased a 6' x 8' silver tarp and had a piece or rope sewn in so the tarp could slide onto the end to act as an extra shelter or lower it down to use as a wind break. This worked really well on our trip.

Cheers
