Nissan 2011 ST D40 advise

Hi,

Been quite some time since I have been on this forum however always found it to be a great source of information.

We are currently looking to purchase a Nissan ST D40 2011 Manual (5,000km) mainly to tow a horse float (2.5 tonne) or a Boat (2 tonne).

The vehicle was used for business only in very good condition and the asking price is approx $30K.

I would appreciate any advise good and bad on this model.

Regards Dennis

Hi Dennis
I just bought one and in the first month
Clutch $4000
Full 4x4 replacement electrics and soliniods and transfer case &15000
Diff seals $280
Brakes $490
It's been recalled 4times
Nissan wouldn't give the time of day the only thing covered by warranty was 4x4set up about the clutch I rang nissen after my dealership told me I was a bad driver and I must ride the clutch so when I spoke to nissen with no word a lie they wouldn't letme speak to management and I was told to bleep off we have to many calls over the clutches I don't want to hear it Amy more and we won't be covering it by warranty there's nothing I can do and just hung up and when I kept ringing I just kept getting hung up on they where rude and I was talking to a person not on the phone I would of knocked em out they where that bad I treated like a dogg after spending 54000

I had done 820kms when all this happened

I have a December 2009 ST, from new,now done 76,000 klms towing a Lotus trackvan off Rd, Serviced every 5,000 k's, only ever used Penrite oil. Off Rd On Rd, on a run, good road 5th gear average 16 lts per 100 klms.
Must admit on take off with the van I do need to ride the clutch a tad !!! when on a slight incline. other than that NO problems.

Cheers

Don't want to get into a slugging match over brands because it's personal and I understand that but please look the gift horse in the mouth and buy a Hilux Turbo Diesel. This is a rig that gets the job done day in day out, thats why it's the biggest selling 4x4 in history. Yes there are newer 4x4's with more creature comforts etc but they are un-proven. You get what you pay for and thats why the Hilix is dearer, but guess what, it will the cheaper buy in the long run. It's like you can buy a colour printer for $40 but it'll cost you thousands to run over 2 years. With that sort of service from Nissan why would you consider buying one?

Taking your Nissan to a Toyo dealership for service, what can I say? Buy the Hilux snd dont have the problems to begin with.,

I work for a large rental franshise that runs 150 vehicles. We made the unfortunate mistake of buying six d40s because we got them at bargain prices. Unfortunatly they are complete lemons. One was at the dealers every week for some sort of problem and I also found the autos where all noise and no go. By comparsion we have very little trouble with Luxs or tritions, some mind you but no comparsion really.
We could only get rid of them by buying a heap of xtrails and trading them in so expect little resale.
And the best story the local toyota dealer now keeps a d40 with 50000ks on it so people can drive it.enough said.
Cheers pete

I'd be hesitant to get one for heavy duty use like towing. My friends have found them weak and not as fuel efficent as the previous model.

One friend with the ST 550 version with the new 3lt V6 170kw engine 7 speed auto has found it to be quite a winner though , its much stronger smoother and quieter.
