Just in case other members have this phone (Regional blue tick, as I understand it). Mine has been 'dying' continual over quite some months - had to reboot it often - used the old phone for awhile, but finally got around to sorting it - a new battery and restoration of default settings got me nowhere - found a note on Whirlpool to the effect that the issue (software) is well known (by Telstra too - what else). A link on Whirlpool here took me on a merry dance through a software download and upgrade routine, using my PC and the phone's supplied USB cable. All good for now (it seems).

The phone may actually be good quality, because mine ran reliably for the first year - it seems that Telstra's network upgrades have generated an incompatibility with this particular phone - mine was happy here at home, but would soon be found dead, after going out and about for the day - I presume the problem is triggered as the phone registers itself with new cells when on the move. Then again, re cost ....... Telstra gave it to me for $0 when I last signed up for a 2 year plan - maybe it is worth that much - nothing :-o).

Had very few problems prior to the network upgrade, did the download and still working OK. What I like about it is that you can connect it to a broome stick aerial for way out of town communications.

Also use it to link laptop when touring or desktop when at home to the net for medium speed communications $10 for 1Gb per month on top of my $20 a month plan with my hour. ($20 for 2 Gb)

Phone is nearly 2 years old,

There was a message from telstra recently about the possibility of the T2 turning off whilst telstra were doing some updates or whatever, they provided a link to ZTE site to download the fix, my T2 has not experienced any problems and i downloaded the link

Ditch the phone, it's not reliable (as a quick troll of the internet has shown me).

Get the Samsung S5511T instead. It will do everything the ZTE will do and do it reliably. Whats more you can get it for $80. I have an earlier version, the C5220, and it has been working perfectly for over three years now. The main thing is that it is blue tick and will work just about anywhere that Telstra say they have coverage. Add a small aerial and it will even surpass this.

Check it out here

I have a 5520 but have damaged the display scree although it still works perfectly
Does the 5511t take the broom stick ariel as the 5520 does

Maybe we were lucky, but we bought one from Telstra on a plan just over 12 months ago and have taken it with us on several trips, Tasmania, NT and WA and love it. (Also using it as a modem on our laptop.) Have had no problems at all and get brilliant coverage, especially with our antenna. (Hope I have not jinxed it now!) Also did the software upgrade as advised by Telstra about 2 months back.

I have had one for almost 3 years. It has seen a lot of Australia and except for a problem with the calendar early in its life there have been no other problems despite it having been dropped several times.

Update - the software download seems to have cured the T2 - been running happily since my original post - the original battery was doing ok, but I guess the new one for $25 is not money wasted - at least I have a spare :-o).
